Round-up

By | April 11, 2017

Look I know what you’re thinking, “Brig I know the world of gameshows and competitive reality has been, for want of a better word, really dull recently but it would be nice if there were posts not based solely around what Bother’s Bar is doing or has been up to as an exciting change of pace especially given you’re doing The Smartest Person at Bother’s Bar three nights next week on the Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.”

Well readers I hear you, so here are some things in the comments recently you might have missed, with thanks to various contributors:

  • Taskmaster promos – Contestants in the upcoming series have been charged with making a billboard to advertise the new series starting April 25th on Dave. Here is a three minute film, although you have to register for UKTV Play now because everyone in television is awful. Also in the new series “to encourage greater audience participation in the show, each week viewers will be asked to complete a task set via Dave’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, with the winner receiving a takeaway voucher.” THUMBS UP EMOJI.
  • “They” are looking for contestants for 5 Gold Rings. Looking at the recent viewing figures this could be the nexus point of a 3D graph with “most money”, “most fun”, “least chance of national embarrassment” along all the axes.
  • Babushka is going to be heart attack inducing.
  • The Boss with Susan Calman starts April 24th on BBC One.
  • Murder in Successville returns to BBC3 from 19th April, first guest detective is Richard Osman.
  • Finally Countdown is getting a new set, although it looks like evolution rather than revolution:

Speaking of Taskmaster, has there been any word of Dave screening episodes online a week in advance this time around?

Incidentally Rachel’s making a Game of Thrones reference there, in case anybody was pondering.

Yes I’m sorry using an embedded tweet means the page is going to jump every time you try and click on a comment.

This has been knocking around for a while. I’m actually a bit less excited now they seem to be concentrating on vehicles. Still though.

I have had a Twitter conversation with RDF west who seems to be involved with The Crystal Maze and they are being tightly lipped about when the first block of episodes will be broadcast but they say to keep an eye on Channel 4 feed which makes me think it’s coming in the next two months

I was guessing late September/early October myself (if they split the 20 ordered eps into 2 blocks of 10, and want to use one of the celeb eps as a Christmas special sometime in mid-December as the last ep of the first block, that would work out).

If you can, watch this weeks episode of Survivor- it has probably the most infamous moment on a reality show I’ve ever seen…

Jade Goody on Celeb BB is still the front runner. Has any other reality TV moment led to people burning effigies in protest?

The BBC have decided it is utterly pointless to be wasting time sticking the lottery draw on BBC iPlayer now, so as of next week Alan has directed any punters to visit the National Lottery website to check the results

Didn’t think it would last long, but presumed it would be more than 3 months!

The schedule is actually kind of missing it – they moved the news to 9pm tonight to try and avoid Doctor Who and Mrs Brown clashing with Britain’s Got Talent.
