The Jump

By | February 6, 2017

This returned last night which completely passed me by and after a disappointing third series it looks like it’s got its mojo back – none of the pre-recorded nonsense we got last year, with all of the jumping done earlier in the evening (and rubbish air jumping to boot), we got all live action throughout. Nobody got injured except in training, but we still got the drama of somebody taking a tumble on the parallel slalom and somebody pulling out of jumping. It also features a legitimately good line-up, even if it is sportsperson heavy.

It also managed to cram more innuendo into its first five minutes than ever before which for The Jump is quite something. Herr Edich the barman indeed.

CBBC game show that was talked about here recently, Remotely Funny, begins on February 13 at 15:55.

In Germany It Takes 2 (RTL’s duett competition for celebrities) has done so badly without I’m a Celeb in its succeeding slot, the finale will air more than two hours later than usual with the winner being crowned at 1:40 in the morning (in a night from Sunday to Monday).
    It’s a huge flop!

Fortunately no, it was pre-recorded and thus it will not affect the results.

By the way, German yellow press newspaper Bild says that only about 10,000 viewers in total vote for the participants in the Bushtucker Trials on German I’m a Celeb per evening. Of course the Bild is a dubious source, but has been very accurate regarding I’m a Celeb news in the last couple of years.

It may be true, phone lines are still offered in the UK but they really push the app during the show where you can vote for free rather than using a premium rate number – they probably saw which way the wind was blowing and decided they’d make more money from in-app sponsorship.

X Factor’s the same, and as you get five free votes they can give an impressive sounding vote tally even if the amount of people voting is only 20% of that, and the amount of paying customers even less.

I never thought of the ad revenues in the apps. But that’s a great point. We don’t have any apps to vote in any shows in Germany. There were some app based talent shows (mainly Keep Your Light Shining on Prosieben and Rising Star on RTL), but no shows where the app was not part of the format. You really have to make a call or write a text message.

I might be misremembering this but I think I’m a Celeb scrapped phone voting for the Bushtuckers during the last series and it was all done via the app. I’m pretty sure the phone vote was only introduced for the eliminations.

I’d be fascinated to see the vote numbers for shows in the UK. I can imagine Big Brother doesn’t do too well anymore.

    Any mentors this year?

All I’ve heard regarding this subject is the dismissal of Eddie the Eagle, supposedly for voicing safety concerns (I’m not one for fully trusting the tabloids and gossip sites).

By the looks of things, Lizzy Yarnold hasn’t returned either. Graham Bell and Warren Smith have – but Graham was only credited as co-commentator on Sunday night, while AFAIK Warren has always been credited as a trainer rather than a full-blown mentor.
