Asking the big questions

By | June 6, 2016

As the nation is gripped by the new ideologically pure Top Gear, it’s time to ask the important question.

Imagine the synergy of Chris Evans advertising the other show at the end of each episode. Perhaps have Dermot on as the Star in a Rallycross Car. The numbers would go through the roof!

A-ha-ha. Seriously though I wonder when they will go out? Perhaps they will save it as a ‘spoiler’ for The Voice on ITV next year, which is funny because cars have spoilers.

And whilst we’re on the subject of Saturday night next-big-things it was interesting to note that Can’t Touch This, sent to the half-five slot where flops go to die, outrated the young and hip Bang on the Money in primetime (1.4m vs 1.2m all-in). Can’t Touch This has proven surprisingly resilient in the slot where other shows like Don’t Scare the Hare and That Puppet Game Show have found themselves well under a million. Probably not worth recommissioning mind, but if the BBC found themselves really stuck…

Bang on the Money is flawed as a bit of Saturday evening entertainment but it probably doesn’t deserve to go that low.

Edit: As I’ve linked to everything else, here’s the show discussion post for The Getaway Car.
