Our Eurovision song’s the best one in ages

By | February 27, 2016

Do you remember when Still In Love With You was initially revealed and everyone simultaneously went “that’s rubbish”?

Meet our not-quite-handsome-but-not-quite-ugly hopefuls for this year Joe and Jake, contestants from series four of The Voice UK who beat five other hopeful acts in the public vote to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest in May. They’re sort of like a crap Busted, but in a good way. The song is called You’re Not Alone.

My clubbing days are behind me but if I was in an indie club and this came on we’d totally start jumping about to that chorus. I’d suggest initially at least it’s probably one level of intensity down from being truly great but who knows how it will develop between now and the 14th May.

I loved “Still In Love With You” and with a better presentation (and the new voting system) it could have been in the top ten. Too bad the couple couldn’t sing properly. I think this year’s song is alright, better than the German entry called “Ghosts” by Jamie Lee Kriewitz, last season’s The Voice Of Germany Of The Netherlands winner.
Second placed Alex Diehl (Nur Ein Lied) was pretty great and better presentationwise imho, you should be able to find it on youtube.

I have to say of the six songs presented on the night, I do feel our winner for “UK’s Entry for EuroVision 2016” was indeed the best – and I’m cautiously optimistic for our chances, but it really depends on the final performances on the night.

I think what’ll help it most is this is really only the second or third time the UK’s sent a song that suits the arena show format the contest uses now. Aside from Blue, all of your other recent entries seem more suited to music clips or theatre shows (and poor Andy Abrahams is the only one to even really try and work with what he had), but as long as the BBC doesn’t do their typical austerity staging this should do pretty well on the night.
