Tom Scott’s Youtube Nerd Game Night

By | February 25, 2016

We were pretty stoked for this when we heard about it last month, Friend Of The Bar Tom Scott‘s new web series is Game On where four Youtube stars compete in head to head games of comedy, skill and strategy devised by Bother’s Bar Schlag den Raab live commentator David Bodycombe.

The first one today is Rock Paper Scissors Hammer Helmet, in a preview event I ended up smacking Tom Scott around the head with a pool noodle in a demonstration.

I know one of the other games coming up but I won’t spoil, other to say you’ll dig it if you dig The Genius Deathmatches. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series, you’re advised to subscribe to Tom’s Youtube channel for this and factual entertainment.

I’m sure either David or Tom reading would be able to answer – given that it’s a double elimination format and there are six episodes, two losses to be eliminated, was there a potential seventh game and show?

And presumably therefore the winner didn’t lose a game throughout. Um, spoiler.

If it’s Double Elimination Only Connect-style it should work, I think:

      Show 1 – Round One
      Show 2 – Round One
      Show 3 – Winner 1 v Winner 2 (Winner 3 qualifies for Final)
      Show 4 – Loser 1 v Loser 2 (Loser 4 is out)
      Show 5 – Loser 3 v Winner 4 (Winner 5 qualifies for Final, Loser 5 is out)
      Show 6 – Final – Winner 3 v Winner 5

Shows 3 and 4 could happen in either order

That would be reasonable enough, although Winner 3 could lose the final and only lose one game throughout when everyone else lost two.

In that case the overall winner would also have only lost once, I think

It’s double-elimination up to the final, but the final is Winner Takes All. So yes, it’s possible to play perfectly then lose in the final.

As the participants will attest, the schedule was always 6 games long so you haven’t been spoiled. There were 2 or 3 replacement games lined up in case anything went wrong, but nothing did. Maybe we’ll get to use them next time 🙂
