Top o’ the morning, to you

By | March 17, 2010

It St Patrick Kielty’s Day! The one day of the year where everyone goes into a pub and reminisces over Last Chance Lottery, and what might have been if only ABC had shown the six episodes of Deal or No Deal they filmed before binning it and letting NBC have the hugely successful format.

In other news, everybody wants to point out the story about French Milgram experiment dressed up as a game show Le Jeu de la Mort. I would be quite interested in seeing this. Will people play along with unreasonable things for TV? Evidently yes.

Interestingly there was a game on Aussie Mole that played off of a similar idea – one contestant was taken away and secretly taught to act as if pain. They were then pretendly wired up to a device that could give electric shocks. The rest of the team were given a twenty question quiz – to win the cash for the task they just had to get to the end of the twenty questions, but every time they gave a wrong answer, an electric shock apparently increasing in intensity each time would pretend to be administrated to the contestant who they could see on a screen. To earn a free pass to the next episode, he had to convince the rest of the team (who held the power) to stop the game. What followed was very interesting – several of the team were happy to stop about halfway through but others were vocally not so, apparently twigging that doing it for real just wouldn’t be allowed.

In other news, Escape From Scorpion Island is getting two more series.

Are we allowed to post not-so-legal links there ?
Because it seems like a french warez forum just leaked Le Jeu de la Mort… and the little I could see with a VLC preview (and poor connection) confirms it’s real. If you’re intrested, then… let me know!

Obviously as a responsible person writing the industry’s most favouritist website I can’t personally be seen to be telling people how to find naughty things.

But if other people want to and think it is in the public interest, then who am I to stop them? 🙂 Be warned if the link looks dodgy it might get blocked as spam.

I’m posting because It seems like it’s interesting some people over there, I was really surprised when I saw the BBC/Sky News coverage about it. So… it’s SD, length is 93 minutes, it’s obviously in French and not subtitled, for the technical details.

Yeah, Sky News were showing footage of it when I walked in, and I can’t help thinking that they’re feeling a little jealous. Thanks for that, Sky News. *turns over, and not to BBC News either*

where has this scorpion island news come from? cant find it on the ole’ bbc press office site. And im not sure how many other people watched it, (even i didnt bother with the third series) but i found series 2, more organised, and therefore far less fun the the first series. That, and neither JK nor Joel is as good looking as Caroline Flack, obviously!

It was on various independent media sites a few days ago. I think the press release must have come from the Aussie co-producers.

    Just out of curiosity…

That Tania Young who hosts Le Jeu de la Mort is vraiment belle, but judging by her surname, is she originally from Britain or another country where English is an official language and many people are white, but she’s settled in France like she’s always lived there, a bit like Jane Birkin or Samuel Beckett?

Or is it just that her father or grandfather is/was British, American or whatever, or that she’s married to a Mr Young?

It seems like it’s not her real name. I can’t say it’s verified information, but the name of “Élisabeth Groulut” is coming back a lot. Sounds a bit more… french 🙂

According to the profile on France 2, she was born at Hossegor (Aquitaine, south-western France), trained as a journalist in Pau and Toulouse, and spent a couple of years in Australia. She’s currently best-known for presenting the weather on France 2, and (obGameShow) appeared on the 2008 series of Fort Boyard. Another top show TV5 hasn’t yet aired..
