That.
Four more weeks of Ant and Dec, then?
Something that I forgot to mention in the recording review but something the official tweet seemed to re-emphasise is that they’re making quite a thing about it being recorded at Pinewood Studios (Vernon mentions it in his intro). Are they angling to film international versions here if it’s a hit?
ITV is tired of people pushing their buttons on the Push The Button ratings…
http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/tv/news/a209002/itv-defends-ant–decs-button-ratings.html
It’ll be axed after Series 1, especially now everyone (including, seemingly, the contestants) has worked out how easy it is to win the final game…
Typical broadcaster, taking a spin on things.
“The first series of Saturday Night Takeaway averaged at 4.7m viewers and that turned into a big show. Push The Button is above average for its first series and we are pleased with its progress.”
That is only because Takeaway was first launched as a summer show (June/July 2002) and was totally a different format to what made the show popular from the second series onwards. Since the first series, it was never aired in the summer. Even back then it still lost out to In It to Win It (who was also airing their debut series as well) on most nights. That’s a thought, I’d bet nobody expected IItWI to outlast Takeaway.
The fact remains the show is losing viewers on a competitive night where new shows such as The Cube and Take Me Out have been gaining viewers. Especially Take Me Out who has had a cult following on the net by having a trend on twitter and some Facebook accounts shouting out the catchphrase “no likey, no lighty”
It also begs the question whether the viewing public are interested in civillian famillies anymore. There has been opinions asking to bring back Family Fortunes with civllians but if the public would rather see celebrity famillies then the All Star format will stay.
Brig, there are three episodes left. The final show will air on Easter Saturday. Britain’s Got Talent should set to return on 10th April, which will probably be a 90 minute episode with The Whole 19 Yards on 17th April. I wonder what is planned for Sunday evenings since there is no Beat the Star?
I do think if ratings remain above 4m they’ll give it another go (if it wasn’t Ant and Dec they certainly wouldn’t), and I do think with a few tweaks things could be improved for the second series – notably quicker intros, at least one game involving the full family and a much better end game. I’d also rather see this get a second shot than Takeaway, which was very tired last series, being revived – though if Ant and Dec have another format on the table might be worth going with that.
Blaming it’s failure on the lack of celebrity is a cop out really.
Looks like 1 Vs 100’s fate has been sealed. Tonight’s the Night will join the Lotto line up for their next series.

BBC Press Office

I hate the BBC. I really do.
Here’s an idea – Why don’t you try 1 vs 100 as a standalone format without any lottery draws! Might be what made Tonight’s The Night Series 1 so successful…
Strange also as I really thought 1 vs 100 was taking off with the Xbox Live game and such.
It was mentioned last year the BBC wanted to try out lottery shows without a quiz show element, so I suspect they wanted to try this out. In comparison, Tonight’s the Night is way cheaper to produce than having the massive 1 Vs 100 set squeezed into Pacific Quay. I won’t be surprised if they will tie in with the olympic theme as they have done for last three summer Lotto shows (Jet Set: 2012, This Time Tomorrow, Guesstimation).
I think this is the first non quiz lotto show since Dale’s All Stars since 2001.
I hated Tonight’s the Night. I was just 60 mins of Barrowman grinning and shouting. It was Britains Got Talent on a tenth of the budget. Now the Lottery is being bolted onto it. Hell.
Talking of the Lottery itself – I noticed as I brought my weekly Daily Play ticket to ruin last night in my local fags and mags emporium of delights, that Thunderball from May 9th will be a thrice weekly draw, with an extra draw on Friday nights – and the 5 + T’ball prize has been increased to 500,000 big ones.
(Note – as it says on the bottom of the cardboard flyer propped up infront of the machine, in font size 3, this is subject to National Lottery Commission permission)
I wonder if this will now give Camelot and the Beeb a decent excuse to run the new draw and Euromillions draw and at decent time (ie 9.55pm) rather than waiting for a full 120+ mins after the draw has been made before giving us the results?
Camelot seem to have developed this childish attitude to not giving out the results of any draws on it’s website before they have worked out how much they have been hit for in the prize money stakes. I have to go to the Spanish Lottery website at 9pm to find out how quickly I have to wait before scanning the numbers and throwing the bloody pink ticket in the bin. Not…. Good…… Enough.
So Auntie’s putting lower costs before genuine quality and consistently high ratings, eh?
Not the first funny decision she’s made…
It also means that the Dale-Nick duopoly is short-lived, if one can say it even existed at all.
Hold on – they’ve recommissioned that! There really is no escaping the Barrowman – I thought at least as compensation for him ruining some US shows we’d see less of him over here, but no!
How do you know it’s the 17th not 10th, because as Travis explains Push the Button finishes on 3rd. So wouldn’t 10th be the more likely date?
How many episodes is Whole 19 Yards?
I think Brig is right. We are suppose to have The Door: Part 1 in April. I’m guessing they want to pair it with Britain’s Got Talent.
Yes, that would certainly seem a reasonable conclusion.
Because both Caroline Flack and the Endemol Press guy have said so on Twitter.
Bother’s Bar: PROPER JOURNALISM.
Thank you Brig.
Apologies if I sounded rude earlier, I didn’t intend to!
As it turns out, Franz Kafka devised the original format for The Colour of Money: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/8545157.stm
I’m sorry.
P.S. The Door is listed in the TV guides out today as “next week”, so sometime between the 3rd and 9th April – I’d imagine either the Saturday or Sunday.
ITV’s confirmed its on Good Friday at 9pm for episode one.
That’s the 2nd April, dates fans.
I have seen the first episode of the whole 19 yards, and it is brilliant.
