Two Tribes is back Monday

By | February 10, 2015

Solid 7/10 evening quiz and 2014 Hall of Fame CHAMPION Two Tribes is back for another series starting Monday (BBC2, 6pm), which comes a bit of a surprise. This time round the winner faces the rolling jackpot endgame (contestant must split seven people or things into two groups based on a category). I’ve heard how large it can get, it’s a shame they’ve not hilariously forcing them to take it in either book tokens or DIY vouchers.

In stunt news, Australia will officially be competing in the Eurovision Song Contest this year despite NOT EVEN BEING in Europe. If Australia win SBS will host it in conjunction with the broadcaster of the nation they decide to do it in, to pre-empt your question. It sounds like the idea of guest nations might become a regular thing.

Trying to imagine what odds you could’ve got on “Australia to win Eurovision 2015”

Betting on Israel winning now just for giggles.

For now, Australia are second favourite behind Estonia. Israel not seen as likely to take a 4th win, at 80-1.

I will say this- whoever’s producing that I survived a Zombie Apocalypse has a sense of humor…

(and they came up with a interesting story as to how it got started- the plotline is that a new “5G Wifi” is introduced to the country despite worries it hasn’t been tested fully; three months later it comes out that exposure to the signal causes DNA mutations in some people, but they don’t know how or why it’s spreading even after the signal is shut down- chaos erupts.)

New Victory quiz coming on C4 daytime called Benchmark with Paddy McGuinness, ten people come up with the answer to a numerical question, player decides if the actual answer is higher or lower for big cash prizes. Group of ten competing to become the player on the next show (it’s Judgemental Mk 2!).

Doesn’t sound like the sort of thing that will set anything alight, but Victory usually make decently solid shows and there are doubtless nuances yet to be revealed, so we’ll see.

In a way, it’s very similar to Wits and Wagers – which is interesting as WaW had just got a pilot greenlit in the States.

(sigh) Why can’t Endemol stop fiddling with formats?
One of the most pleasing aspects of Two Tribes series 1 – is that you got a clear winner – and they trousered a grands worth of something.

Now, ok, with a rolling jackpot they are not trying to dodge on the prize fund – but now, you’ll get a situation where winners on each show don’t automatically win a prize for..err.. winning.

Mind you. Should be thankful that being Endemol, we could have had that annoying re-occuring nightmare of the winner have to choose who to split or steal from the knocked out members of the tribe, the £1,000 with.

I too liked the fact that there was a real winner everday.

I am glad they got rid of the vouchers though if only for the contestants sanity! I was lucky enough to win last series and had a real nightmare getting it sorted when my credit card style vouchers had the sum total of £0.00 on them and the crew had disbanded.

I imagine what’s happened is that the feedback has been that the ending isn’t as exciting as Pointless. Nevertheless, it does seem a slightly unnecessary change. I’ll be interested to see where they get the time from – they’re going to have to snip out 2 minutes at least from the front of the show.

Apparently the head to head’s been reduced to 45 seconds each, and presumably they filmed it without bothering to add unnecessary breaks in it, so it shouldn’t be too difficult to find another minute from somewhere.

the plan was to keep Gerry around and to have him host a new show.
instead Gerry will host the Guinness World Records show in primetime and AUA! with Paolo is likely to continue until June.

Keep It In The Family is coming back!

Intrigued to see if and what gets changed for series two, I think there was something there but the mix wasn’t quite right, and the editing felt a bit odd (not to mention the “coming next week” bit basically showing you all the good bits so you didn’t need to watch). I hope they give the Nanas a new game though, it became deeply tedious to watch live and not much better in broadcast.
