Alright, allow us this indulgence, it’s not like there’s anything worthwhile happening anyway (and a show discussion post for Win Your Wish List will appear tomorrow), but if you got a Wii U for Christmas (or even if you already have one) you probably don’t have anything better to do this weekend – heck, you probably don’t even know what day it is! So why not join us in the Bother’s Bar Festive Mario Kart 8 Challenge Tournament on Sunday evening? It’s open worldwide, opens 8pm UK time and finishes approximately 9:30pm.
Name: Bother’s Bar
Entry code: 5165-4287-1342
Date and time: 28th December, 8-9:30pm GMT (that’s 3pm EST, for those in the the US)
You can join in any time (although you’ll probably want to be there from the start to have the best chance). I actually don’t have any idea what’s going to happen (I have “easy CPU” to make up numbers if nobody turns up) so there are no prizes except fame and adulation, but if enough people turn up to make it worthwhile then we’ll consider doing it again in the future. Feel free to add me as a friend on Nintendo Network or PSN: BrigBother in both cases. This isn’t mandatory to join the tournament. See you then!
You will find it Online (one or two player if you have a bored friend) -> Tournaments. Search by code.
Having “The Genius” withdrawals, so I’ve been working on my semi-realistic cast for a UK version of the show.
Rachel Riley (Countdown numbers guru)
Victoria Coren Mitchell (Poker pro and Only Connect host)
Sue Perkins (Comedian and Broadcaster)
Anne Hegerty (Chaser)
Judith Keppel (Millionaire Winner & Egghead)
Louisa Rose Allen (Singer known as “Foxes”)
Wil Wheaton (US Internet Personality and Board Game enthusiast)
Jonathan Ross (Chat show host and comedian)
Derren Brown (Illusionist)
Brian Cox (Staaah-gazer and Professor)
Rufus Hound (Comedian)
Adam Buxton (Comedian and first half of Adam & Joe)
I also imagine producers wouldn’t care for Bandage Man, and they might remove him. In which case, get Stephen Mangan to host.
Semi-realistic might be stretching it in hindsight, I’ve tried to add in a few left-field choices like Foxes and Buxton to try and replicate some of the wild cards we’ve seen in the South Korean version. I do hope we eventually see a UK version.
I’ve also conjured up a Main Match concept called “Three Briefcases”
Before the match begins, each player chooses a number between 20 and 30 secretly, the average of total from all players is the turn the game will end on (so usually around turn 25).
Three of the players start with briefcases, all locked. They are aware one contains the word “Win”, one contains the word “Lose” and another contains the number of the turn the game will end on. Whoever is holding the win briefcase at the end wins two idols of immunity, and whoever is holding the lose briefcase becomes the death match candidate.
Every turn, players must give their briefcase to another player. Players must accept a briefcase offered to them, but cannot hold more than one at any one time. On turn 10, the players holding the briefcases are shown what is contained within their briefcase. Players may not pass a briefcase back to the person who gave it to them the turn prior, to avoid two people holding on to a single briefcase.
It would need tweaking, some addition of garnets, maybe voting for someone who can’t hold briefcases midway through the game, but I think it’s a solid idea.
….I really hope Season 4 isn’t too far away
Oh, a bit like The Poison Chalice from The Search. I think there’s something workable there, although you’re probably looking like 12 turns maximum for television. The producers could pick the game length without changing the game meaningfully.
Some realistic names there, I think Riley, Hound and Buxton would definitely do it given the chance. Ross and Perkins reasonably likely.
