If you hadn’t gathered, Catchphrase is back on Sunday in a one-hour format, and Stephen Mulhern is promising a round in one of the episodes that rivals the legendary snake charmer one (and he also suggests it came about naturally through randomness and wasn’t a specific attempt to go tediously viral).
So here’s a random episode of the US original from Youtube:
Well, they could easily have deliberately designed it such that revealing all but one or two squares would make it seem rude, then randomness dictates if those one or two squares are in fact revealed.
Or he’s telling porkies.
Or it isn’t random and he genuinely doesn’t know.
Or I guess it could actually have come about through sheer chance, on an innocently designed board, but I find that unlikely.
I’m sure when it happens it’ll be funny and people will laugh and that’s fine.
But in the back of my head I’ll be going “really? REALLY?”
Is this one just now ‘the thing’? Because it’s not that good.
I think it’s the Mother’s Day Special, which should be next week I expect.
The lad Mulhern has gone up in my estimation for his You Bet! fandom, and I’m kind of hoping that he was making a very knowing, preview-ish sort of remark.
Weakly relatedly: now he’s shaved off his iconic beard, doesn’t Rufus Hound look like a young, ginger Matthew Kelly, on the theatre posters?
Apparently the new BBC show ‘The Link’ is based on this board game: http://www.playlinkee.com.
The creators of the game say they’ve been developing it or a while now.
As seen on Dragons’ Den.

In fact we’ve played it on our Schlag den Raab commentaries in the ad breaks, thanks to Dan.
Indeed – thanks to Eclectic Games bringing it to my attention! We’re well ahead of the curve at The Bar.
Bother’s Bar – game show hipsters since… At *least* 2005 when we were months ahead of the game on DoND.
The Link is being hosted by Mark Williams of The Fast Show/Harry Potter/Prudential ad fame. Which is an unusual choice.
In other news Tim Vine’s filming a new quiz pilot (two episodes in fact) called You Can’t Say That! filming on Wednesday, a trivia quiz which also features trick questions. Tickets SRO. Not sure if I’m going to be able to make that one.
That’s not based on this board game is it? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51ly59rn%2BpL._SY300_.jpg
No that’s effectively Taboo.
Whilst you’re all waiting for Schlag Den Baar, I’ve put up on YouTube the five Candidate videos that I made as a little joke! You can watch them all in their glory here:

And if that embedding hasn’t worked, you can also watch them here: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMuyckgwJO8vnLHeX0FabCiWaIEMR1i-8
Candidate number 4 is my favourite, obviously.
Incidentially, we have an awesome contender lined up to play me. I do wish them the very best of luck, they’ll need it…!
One for you UKGameshow.com records folk – the record win on Perfection went on Friday – £19,000 beating the previous £18,000 – this time split two ways £10k to one player, £9k to the other.
The bigger news is surely the fact they were actually airing new episodes…!
Catchphrase 2014 is like Catchphrase 2013 except 33% slower and with contestants 33% thicker.
Catchphrase ratings: 4.75m (21.3%)
Thanks Paul, appreciated.
About a million-plus more than it really deserved, frankly.
Down to 3.90m (18%) last night, on an evening where nothing rated particularly well besides Countryfile and Antiques Roadshow.
Well it’s not like it was warm out. Must do better. Thanks.
Don’t know if there’s been any talk of this previously, but BARB says that the first episode of Timeline did 104k.
Oh no, I did wonder, thanks very much Steven. Well outside their Top 10, although it’s repeated almost daily, so.
Its a shame but the Timeline app is better than the show
Looks like its reverting back to 45 minutes from April 6th as the provisional schedules have it down to run 6.45-7.30pm (with Off Their Rockers at 7.30 again like last year).
Stephen has posted what appears to be The Moment to his YouTube page:
