It’s that That’s My Dog unofficial reboot we’ve all been waiting for, in the run up to Crufts John Barrowman puts pooches and their owners to the test. Features a “dogstable course”. Might be fun but we’re not expecting much.
This is part of Channel 4’s new afternoon schedule we’ve been discussing here. @OfficialBanker suggesting it’s for three weeks, but then I guess the Winter Paralympics kick in.
Dogs! Adorable!
That pretty much sums up my opinion of this show. Yes I am a dog person.
I met some of the dogs in the bar on my last night working at MediaCity, as you do, and had a cuddle. Very lovely, I’m a dog person too!
OK. The dogs were wicked and there’s a fun idea in it, but it somehow manages to feel both under and over produced and comes across as a bit of a parody. The audience sound mixing was well off and the cutting choppy as anything – could have done with a much looser feel I think. I liked the idea of the owner skill being an integral part of the game (in Swim and Fetch), and the Dogstacle Course managed to combine the two best bits from That’s My Dog – the obstacle course and the game where they had to get through a maze without being distracted by the dog food – with amusing effect.
I don’t think Pointless or The Chase will be quaking too much, but it’s not without merit, even if it’s the production rather than the ideas that kill it for me.
My hatred of John Barrowman outweights my love of dogs here.
He reins it in, I think it’s fair to say.
Well I enjoyed it even if it does all feel a bit pointless! 😉
The fact it is essentially a 23 minute show (minus adverts) means it paces along quite nicely, the Paul Farrer music is still in my head, the commentary from Jim Rosenthal is jolly enough and it makes a pleasant change from watching a quiz show while you eat your tea!
Probably a 7.5/10 for me, although the games could get repetitive quite quickly.
the Sanremo song contest in Italy opened with a jammed curtain and a suicide attempt. 45,93% share for the first night.

at least Beppe Grillo had the decency to attempt to hijack the show during an ad break.
Don’t know about Monday or Tuesday but it rated below a million yesterday. In fact, the entire of C4’s afternoon lineup was below a million except Coach Trip (which got 1.03m), and that’s with +1 included. The Winter Olympics will be having an affect, but that’s still poor.
Elsewhere, Pointless got 2.86m yesterday, behind The Chase’s 3.04m. Tipping Point had 1.66m. Looks like the Olympics are throwing everything off a bit though.
Monday: 683,000 (4.0%)
Tuesday: 637,000 (4.0%)
Wednesday: 523,000 (3.2%)
As you say, everything in daytime has been down due to the Olympics, and yesterday especially so due to some big curling thing which ran for most of the afternoon.
Yeah everything looks depressed. Although I notice The Chase seems to have held up much better than Pointless (Pointless had been quite a bit ahead until recently). Perhaps the return of everyone’s favourite Tipping Point has helped (which in itself held up OK against the games considering it normally takes a couple of weeks to get back into its stride after a break).
Thanks, first set of figures I’ve seen for the afternoon line up this week.
Good old Tipping Point.
Also, with the Winter Olympics finished, Revenge of the Egghead will be taking the Eggheads spot on BBC Two for a few weeks from Monday:

Just seen these on DS Forum:
Exc +1 Yesterday…
Countdown – 360,000 (4.5%)
Deal or No Deal – 700,000 (7.2%)
Come Dine With Me – 670,000 (5.9%)
Coach Trip – 900,000 (6.3%)
Superstar Dogs – 450,000 (2.8%)
The real surprise for me is Come Dine With Me which I thought would be a bit more resilient.
I’ve also just seen a figure pointing to DOND getting 532k (3.2%) INC +1 yesterday, so no idea which is more accurate.
I think that second Deal rating is wrong. Including +1 I have:
386,000 (4.9%) Countdown
828,000 (8.4%) Deal or No Deal
800,000 (6.7%) Come Dine With Me
992,000 (6.9%) Coach Trip
523,000 (3.2%) Superstar Dogs
Which look about right with the DS ones. The slight (13,000) difference between my ratings and Score’s is probably something to do with tape-checking or some such thing that I don’t quite understand.
I agree – that’s usual around 1.5m at 5.30pm I think. Hadn’t thought of the Olympics hitting them but even so the only show that actually kind of holds up is Deal, and that’s because it’s 4pm figures aren’t great later. As I’ve said all along if they do want to bump things back half an hour they’d make life easier by cutting Deal back to 45 minutes to allow Countdown to air at 3pm, which means it then shares a junction with both BBC1 and ITV.
P.S. Why on earth would anyone think it’s a good idea to give CJ his own show. Like In it to Win It I struggle to see how Eggheads got past it’s first series – it’s bloody awful but still bloody here.
