New Lottery Show

By | October 5, 2013

Chris Evans hosts the new National Lottery Live this evening from 9:10 on BBC1. So far, so what, however of interest is that there’s a game called 49-1 on it which will give someone the chance to win £50k live on air. I have no idea what that entails.

Of course if they haven’t used a remix of Ed Welch’s old lottery theme it’s a big fail anyway. It was Ed Welch who did it, wasn’t it?

Meanwhile Endemol Joe is suggesting that in the upcoming Telly Eggheads ITV daytime quiz  Show Me The Telly, Chris Tarrant is going to be one of the professionals every episode, joined by two rotating celebs.

I wonder whether having The Chaser playing for a chosen charity of their own would make the Celebrity Chase a bit more palatable? The prospect of attempting to stop thousands of pounds going to charity must be a bit hard on them; with this, they would have every motivation to beat the contestants.

Well 49-1 was underwhelming. The new studio looks quite nice though.

For the record re: 49-1, players sent in photos and assigned a number. The first three numbers pulled in the main Lotto draw win £10k, second three £20k, bonus ball £50k. And that’s it.

    Celebrity Pointless: 4.05m
    Celebrity Chase: 2.95m inc +1

I did think it was a little bizarre to put The Chase on after SCD had started.

Hasn’t the Celebrity series always been on Sundays before?

Wasn’t it 6pm Saturdays last year? It would do better at 6pm than 7pm.

French news : this is apparently TF1’s next gameshow in the 6pm slot, (currently occuped by Une Famille en Or – Family Fortunes) and hosted by Jean-Pierre Foucault (French WWTBAM ). Looks like an incredibly boring retool of Money Drop to me.

Just from that clip alone it looks awkward (and why 51? 50 is even, but 52 makes the odds of getting a “good” buzzer exactly 1 in 4- plus you could make it casino-themed and give each buzzer a playing card name- even let them decide which buzzers are good by having them blindly pick 13 cards from a deck before they begin play)

I’ve only skimmed the video (will watch properly later), is there only one buzzer with the €200,000 penalty? Because that makes more sense in a “50 are safe, one will immediately end the game” as an idea.

It’s unclear – Gerard Vives hosting this pilot says that each “red” buzzer deducts from 1 to 25K from the pot … but subtitles tell “from 1 to 200K” which is probably their final idea.

There’s not some sort of graphic telling how penalties are distributed among the red buzzers in the clip, anyway.

I’ve watched this now, to me the odds seem a little off, by about question four or five you could be down to watching people try and find just three or four green buzzers in a jungle of about thirty which doesn’t strike me as much fun.

This screams ‘FTROYL but BIGGER!’ to me

Oh lordy, I hadn’t twigged it was that way around – I thought it was a few red scattered amongst the sea of green. Why on earth would you do it like that?

And then you have problems where a couple could dwindle their money down to a frippery like E3,000 by question 4 but they manage to hang on for the rest of the show.

Another thing is, he says there are 13 green buzzers and 37 red ones, so there is one buzzzer missing, which might mean it costs 200.000€ as this is implied by the subtitles…
