New look Challenge

By | October 4, 2013

Challenge is getting a new look on Monday, apparently. Surely it’s only been like six weeks since the last rebrand?

But more importantly, next week is Going Dutch week on Bother’s Bar I have decided where we’ll take a look at some Dutch quizzes you can watch online, some of which have been going for 20+ years. I hope it will be mildly diverting.

Meanwhile Comedy Central have ordered a comedy gameshow pilot from Initial called The Almost Impossible Gameshow. It is inspired by Wipeout and viral Japanese television clips. Contestants will get five chances to complete five challenges to win a prize.

Edit: It’s all a bit Nick Weir era Catchphrase:

I feel we could write a decent size book on all the various rebrands and themed schedule blocks (Challenge Playr anyone?) they’ve run through over the years.

Oh, that’s about as uninspiring as the previous orange logo. Not obviously game/question/puzzle related, so it’s all down to the idents and animation.

That’s a bit of a shame, I really like the current Challenge presentation, it was perfect for the channel and I was hoping it would stick around a bit longer. It’s when it goes all metallic and purple for ‘Late Zone’ that I don’t really get it; especially as it tends to be full of shows which are on just as likely to be on in daytime anyway. I wonder if they will bother carrying that through with the rebrand.

I agree, I thought the current logo was it’s best look in many a long year.

They just needed to cook up some new variations on the idents to keep it fresh, rather than this rather bizarre new look.

Apparently the new branding will have a cast of six characters. It’s Nick Weir’s Catchphrase all over again!

And we all know how well they went down!!!

To me, these look and sound like they’re just going to be irritating. I can’t see them leading into things like The Wrestling very suitably, though I guess we’ll have to wait and see what they’ve come up with.

Seems interesting, I remember recently there being a claim that Sky’s marketing division were searching for sponsors for individual segments of the day for the run of the network – could the characters be a way of dividing this up distinctly on screen?

Certainly the demographics for Challenge are all over the place, so this kind of ID might be more useful than the simpler stuff.

In addition, one of IMpact’s Wrestlers Magnus (or Oblivion, if you remember the Gladiators relaunch) posted this pic of his niece on Twitter, looks like Challenge merchandise is already geared up for the new look.

I did think the new logo looks a bit more female-friendly, although I’m not sure what the characters are aimed at.

      Fair enough, really.

From a broadcasting perspective, intrigued to see how they deal with the loss of a day, whether they’ll just not broadcast it or show it in a repeat slot or whatever.

From what I can recall earlier this year with the announcement of the new Pope. They cut half way through The Money Drop and The Legacy to go live to the Vatican. Affari Tuoi was cancelled for live coverage but the next day had that day’s scheduled episode. Therefore skipping the cancelled show. I suspect today’s shows will not be broadcast at all.

Yes I suspect that will be the case, I know Avanti now has a “on this day in history” character so they can’t afford to push everything a day back.

The rebrand has apparently scared the BBC into showing repeats of Pointless… Unless anyone can shed some light on what the real reason might be?

ANOTHER rebrand for Challenge? So that means that the yellow T-shirt I won with the current logo is soon to be obsolete…

Oh awesome, I noticed someone called The Stutterer when Google Translated on the official page the other day, presumably this is him and there’s a mistranslation somewhere.

I’m surprised they have him and the Alien on the same episode given they appear to be quite similar jokes.
