It’s back! It’s time to join Bonolis and Laurenti for the quiz where anything could happen and uniquely actually might as AuA returns for another seven-day-a-week run on Canale 5 in Italy for the next however many months.
New mini-world characters are promised and maybe a modification to the end game. And who knows what else?
If you don’t know what it is, we wrote a big thing on it last year. People answer questions on various topics for money, and they can sit in the champion’s seat with the money or keep pushing their luck to earn more as only the person in the champion’s seat who has the most money at the end of the game will get to the chance to take home what they’ve earnt with a hefty bonus in the world’s most fun tough endgame. Along the way regular characters will come on and ask questions for a bonus. It’s the most brilliant light-entertainment quiz for some time. In Italian.
Fingers crossed ungeoblocked episodes will go up here, but let’s hope the thumbnail doesn’t reveal who the winners are this time.
You can identify surprisingly close parallels between the gameplay of AuA! and that of the MSQ if you squint really hard. Accordingly Ryan Seacrest needs not to introduce people asking questions by the video screen but random comedy characters live in person, and needs to muck about with them. (Probably not in the Dick’n’Dom sense.)
Yes you can, in fact I almost thought about making the comment.
a moment ago Paolo Bonolis was a guest at the Canale5 newscast and he was asked “how do you come up with all those characters?”
his answer: “nightmares. nightmares caused by eating peppers” 🙂
You’ve converted me to AuA!, Brig, so I’ll look forward to seeing the new series
Wooh! Alright then, a bit disappointed there wasn’t really anything new in it – think I was hoping for a new character or two at least (not counting the lovely Paula who has replaced Friend of the Bar Engineer Carla). I think there have been a few cosmetic changes to the score graphics on the set. Noticed the contestant got a four-option question after Luca did a song which I hadn’t seen before.
But more of the same isn’t necessarily a bad thing and I laughed at antics quite a lot. Also it looks like they got quite lucky with a very exciting Giochi Final for the first episode.
Here’s a direct link to the first episode:

First few episodes of a AuA series tend to have slightly fewer questions and slightly more mucking about whilst they reintroduce everything.
Last series they weren’t scared to throw new characters in throughout the series so still hopeful to see what happens.
Bonolis said in an interview that the new things will be shown slowly over time. I know for sure that there will be two new characters:
one is the “Minstrel” played by Viviano Vivaldi, an Italo-American guy who appeared on that “celebrity diving” show where Bonolis was in the jury.
the other will be introduced in October, played by Mirko Ranù, an actor/dancer whose character is still unknown. he appeared as a contestant last year.
I agree with Brig, it almost looked like a season 2 episode.
On the other hand, L’Eredità has changed its pace considerably. I’ve read that they added one of those “screw up and start over again” games. I’ll look into that when I have the time.
The Minstrel turned up last night. What does he ask a question on?
You know what I think they should do?
Cross Avanti with Million Second Quiz. The longer you can survive the insanity, the more you win. Top 4 gets massages by Mr. and Ms. Bonus until time runs out.
I’d be fascinated to discover what characters get created 11 days without sleep.
What’s the valet being asked to write down during the show? Some kind of report?
this season Bonolis tells his assistants to write a synopsis of the show. The funny part is that the assistants don’t know what “synopsis” means.
Amazing, I knew the sudden death pick-off is a possibility if no-one makes the chair but I wasn’t expecting to see it!
It has happened an handful of times on the last series but it was quite late into the series when nobody was champion. As shown it can be anticlimax when someone finds the €150,000 scroll.
From that first episode, when Laurenti sang his song and the camera was focused on this guy during it, all I could think of was he looked a LOT like Wakka from Final Fantasy X.

and the host commented: “since when there is a Viagra shampoo?”
and the Next One country is… Vietnam!
This is really interesting thanks. I’ve always thought that whilst the format of AuA is OK but it’s the ideas and production of the original that really sell it, it was interesting to see what bits had been cherrypicked from the original and how they’ve chosen to fit them together. The Vietnamese have picked up on the dancing element and ran with it, certainly!
Ok, what was going on with the mysterious women in the cloaks tonight?
OMG – it’s the AuA board game! http://www.fivestore.it/Gioco-da-tavola-Avanti-un-altro_L2NhdGFsb2cvdmlld1Byb2R1Y3QuanNwP2NkUHJvZHVjdD0xMTMwODQmc2VsZWN0ZWRDZEl0ZW09MzExMzQ5NA==.jsp
Also it looks like there’s a new character called The Stutterer, but I’ve not seen him yet.
