Autumn Teatime SMACKDOWN

By | September 2, 2013

In the red corner, recently weighing in at over three million viewers with repeat episodes it’s the undisputed champion of the world Pointless!

In the blue corner coming back after six weeks off inevitably with some smutty questions it’s the undisputed champion of the world The Chase!

New episodes start today! SECONDS OUT.

Expect Pointless to take an early lead whilst people rediscover The Chase is back, it took the best part of a week for Take On The Twisters to lose the audience, I know for a fact that many people won’t know The Chase is back so will take a little while to build up momentum.

5 cheers and thanks for telling me that the best game show is back!

I think they’re in the wrong coloured corners though. Pointless has an all-blue set while The Chase has lots of red.

Could go either way, really. The Chaser’s part of the set is predominantly red while the contestants’ side is predominantly blue

Have ITV advertised The Chase’s return? With Twisters apparently bombing quite badly you’d think they’d be keen to win back the audience who might have gone elsewhere (Pointless).

Really think Pointless has lost it now – the repeats don’t help, many recent changes have been for the worse, the rounds are just repetitive now (yet another Periodic Table round today) and hate how a “new” series is actually just picking up in the middle of a series finished abruptly earlier in the year.

On the other hand The Chase just seems to get better with age, though they could probably do with a new Chaser in the mix in the not too distant future.

I forgot both were back today!

Perhaps Pointless has lost its spark now, but it’s inevitable with shows like this that the ideas are being re-used and it becomes ever more noticeable as the show count ticks on. The team have been enterprising and creative in spinning out the format as much as they can, but sadly, ultimately, it does have a finite shelf life. But I will be sad to see that day arrive.

I find The Chase more of a ‘dip-in’ show rather than regular viewing, but it’s a thoroughly enjoyable quiz when I do watch it, and there’s no reason why this can’t run as long as Weakest Link, if not longer, given it’s sustained its strong ratings over a long period.
