The first episode of this is recorded tonight at Pinewood if my notes are correct, if you are going then why not tell us about it? I’m not interested in spoilers of results (it is going out on Saturday, after all), but I am interested in how it works and what you thought of it.
Meanwhile I’m genuinely baffled by the pairing of Chris Tarrant and Amanda Holden for The Door. Both responsible for much more misses than hits, but the hits are megahits (and the misses, well, are megamisses). It’s also a bit odd that Chris Tarrant would now appear ot be hosting the sort of show he would regularly take the piss out of on Tarrant on TV. If you can’t beat ’em…
Bradley Walsh gets another new gameshow:

Yep, this was piloted a little while back. Can’t say it sounded particularly appealing, but evidently there’s something going for it.
Door confirmed with holden…and tarrant.

Might be interesting – particularly intrigued that Chris Tarrant’s been roped in.
Also looking forward to the Tarrant hype-the-show-up interview!
I’m sure it’ll be ITV’s biggest hit since The Colour of Money!
🙁 Not my cup of tea. If it really is any more extreme than I’m A Celebrity! then it may prove not to be the public’s cup of tea, either; I give it two series at most.
On much more cheerful news, Digital Spy has rather more news about Iron Chef UK. I can’t quite imagine Battle Mince taking place anywhere but the UK…
Brig you took the words right out of my mouth for the tarrent/Holden debarcle. Minus millionaire And bgt from the equation, and I can’t think of a successful tv show between them. Stiill show sounds not too bad, the
door part sounds a bit like the comedy show itv trialled a while back, thank god you’re here.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed it’s a bit less Fear Factor and a bit more Estate of Panic.
i doubt it will be at all similar to estate of panic, which was possible the most genius a show of this type could be!
Amanda Holden was in Wild at Heart which is a very successful drama for ITV.
She also hosted Celebrating the Carpenters last Autumn which had nearly 6 million viewers which is very good.
6 million may have been watching, but to put it into perspective, over 43 million weren’t.
And as for Tarrant doing another hyped up tension gameshow – hasn’t he learnt the many, many lessons from The Colour Of Money?
And her BBC comedy Big Top was just canned as well…

Actually just to come back to this, the reason Tarrant’s involvement is quite interesting is because it appears almost the opposite of the sort of show usually does – this sounds like it’s going to be a rather dark audience-less affair (as ever, I stand to look very stupid if this turns out to be wrong). He’s rarely less than watchable, but is he going to fit into this?
The point about Amanda Holden is that the shows that she is in that are very successful are so despite, not because. If she was replaced on Britain’s Got Talent, people would get over it quite quickly. Can you say the same thing if Simon Cowell stopped doing it?
Well, obviously 43m weren’t. You don’t need to state the obvious.
But 6 million in this day and age is excellent. I suggest you look at http://www.barb.co.uk to see what ratings the top shows in the UK are getting. Apart from the soaps and talent shows, not much gets over 6m.
Chris Tarrant has presented Tarrant on TV which was a hit for a while.
again perspective, was it holden that it was being watched for? not in the slightest. did it have a lead in from something big? i believe so. was it a one off, which almost exculsively have high ratings, yes siree.
Of course, people didn’t watch the show due to Holden. Did I say people did? No. But someone earlier said that all of the shows Holden is in – bar BGT- flop. That’s not true.
Not all shows which have big lead ins do well. The Bill hardly ever gets more than 4m these days despite following on from Corrie. ITV’s Friday night shows at 9pm don’t do well despite following Corrie. Piers Morgan’s Life Stories show got 4-5m despite following X Factor which was getting 13m+. Big lead ins dont automatically mean big ratings for the programmes following on… so 6m is still excellent.
One offs don’t often get high ratings: Seven Days in Traffic was a one-off earlier this week and only got 2m. If you’re talking about entertainment one-offs, the British Comedy Awards (once a year) didn’t get 5m. An Audience with often doesn’t get 5m. Cheryl Cole’s special one-off only just got 5m.
So really – the fact is that ‘Celebrating the Carpenters’ rated well for ITV. Amanda Holden co-hosted the show, meaning that the person earlier on was incorrect: she has been involved in successful shows besides BGT.
Still, Fantasy Lives, eh?
Fantasy Lives rated better than many of ITV’s programmes in the same slot. ITV has had under 2m in that slot for shows like Trinny and Susannah, Storm etc, and last week only got 2m for a show based on Traffic.
Relatively speaking, Fantasy Lives did quite badly but it isn’t the disaster some people are making it out to be for ITV in that particular slot when it’s very competitive across all 5 channels (Five has CSI on at that time which gets about 3m – usually Five only gets around 1m at 9pm on other days)
If a show fronted by one of ITVs apparently biggest stars (by, seemingly, ITV’s insistance rather than the viewers) can only get two million viewers in peaktime (regardless of competition), that strikes me as being a rather damning indictment of the star in question.
Perhaps ITV should just give up.
Still, I’m sure she’s a lovely person.
According from a very close source and it is true, the show is being recorded at Maidstone Studios. First episode was recorded earlier this week with the second episode being recorded tomorrow.
You don’t get this gossip on any other website!
Good stuff.
Although something I’ve noticed – if you see it as a new show on DS or Broadcast, it’s almost definitely recording or about to be recorded, they won’t mention it until then.
