TERNIGHT!
- Who Wants to be a Millionaire: The People Play (ITV, 9pm) – Once again real people with real sob stories will get to sit in the chair for the chance to walk away at £20,000. But this time there’s an iOS app! Although I think you’ll be able to play along on the website as well. Tonight’s one is live, but they seem to be recording another one for future use. We’re still waiting for the JLS break-up special.
- And that’s on at the same time as The Apprentice! (BBC1, 9pm) What hilarious things will the stupid contestants come out with tonight? Episode two is on tomorrow, and further episodes go out on Wednesdays.
- First series Fun House and Knightmare on Challenge on Friday from 10pm. Kids telly in prime time, it’ll be interesting to see how that does.
- This Saturday it’s the last Schlag den Raab for a few months. We’ll be providing a live commentary again. This time there’s €1.5m in the pot and Hurts are performing live. So.
In other news, ITV are recording a pilot of Take One For The Team on Friday 24th May. Can’t go I have an engagement, but if you go do let us know what you think. Be warned, it’s at Pinewood.
And look! It’s the new Fifty 50 Show this week featuring David Bodycombe and new panellist Jack Waley-Cohen of our good friends at QuizQuizQuiz.com. Check it out.
Hmm – not the best written question there on WWTBAM.
Question was along the lines of Which show uses classical piece ‘O Fortuna’ as a theme tune? Specifically using the words THEME TUNE in the question.
Options were Mastermind, The X Factor, Deal Or No Deal, The Chase.
Answer was The X Factor but it’s not actually the THEME TUNE is it! (If memory serves it’s used in that bit when the judges walk on).
Yes, that is rather poor.
Draw It! Recording in Maidstone next Tuesday:

2m for Civilionaire last night. The Apprentice launched with 6m, it’s second lowest opener. Draw your own conclusions.
Blimey. That must be the lowest ever?
I really hate these new shows, to be honest. Any game show which has to big up the fact that real people playing is an exceptional circumstance gets a thumbs down from me, not least the show which started off offering £1M to real people.
Stick to Classic Millionaire on Challenge I think. They’re in 2000 at the moment; halcyon days of getting within reach of the million regularly and it is quite exciting to watch – I don’t think there’s been anyone winning £250k+ since they were still running 15 questions?
I reckon they either need to try and provoke a massive win to desperately inject some interest, or just move on.
Yup, no £250k wins in the 12-question era.
By comparison, DoND has had four in the same period (the first jackpot win came in January 2007, eight months before the 12-question era began and four months before Millionaire’s last £250k win).
That’s actually quite sad, to be honest.
There is a fantastic pun about one of the Bar’s very favourite things within the first few minutes of the latest Technical Difficulties podcast. Cheers, Tom and pals!
(NB I have paused the podcast a few minutes in to flag this up here. There may well be several more such gags yet to be discovered when I unpause it.)
