Margaret Thatcher! Bonnie Tyler! Catchphrase!
It’s like the eighties coming back.
Meanwhile apparently Channel 4 have bought up Draw Something! Ahead of the game as always that Channel 4. Expect it to be very popular for about a week then everyone to get bored of it when it gets resold to ITV1. Edit: It’s being called Draw It! which is shrewd at least.
I’ve just seen this on MIP. I have no idea of the context or why it uses clips from Survivor or what.
Might be reading a little too much into this, but on Broadcast’s article about Draw Something it has a bit about C4’s entertainment slate. It mentions ‘an Endemol format’. Could this be Avanti un Altro?!
Well, could it be indeed.
Well the only slot it has a chance in would be 4pm if they’re willing to give Deal a much needed rest. 5 Minutes to a Fortune has shown there is no room for a third gameshow format in the 5pm hour, while it’s not easy for C4 to launch a gameshow in a primetime slot.
1001 Things You Should Know appears to be returning a week on Monday (ie 22nd April). (I make that leaving one unaired episode of The Common Denominator if I recall correctly that it was a 40-episode run).
talking about the returning 80’s:
many, many years before Avanti Un Altro! there was Zig Zag, the first example of the “comedy gameshow” genre on Canale5. Rete4 is rerunning some episodes at 5AM and thankfully there are some clips on the Tube!
in this game which premiered in 1983 there are three contestants that play a variety of games during the week. then on Saturday they play a final game to see who wins lots of money and the chance to come back another week for more.
the ingredients are the same: a host with sarcasm to sell (Raimondo Vianello), a lovely assistant to argue with, a talky game judge, someone who can play music, and additional cast members as needed.
in this case, the host’s wife Sandra Mondaini co-hosts on Mondays

in this episode instead the assistant is ill and the contestants are told to recap the scores themselves. and you can see the iconic item-guessing game!

of course everything is fair game for a laugh, even a malfunctioning prop.
(and the Judge’s comment “I have things to repair at home: if you have some time…”)
and during this New Year’s Eve episode, the cast members play the games themselves. the third female contestant here is the show’s director
whoops, this is the “technical mishap” video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0hApcGdXJI
Awesome, I shall watch this when I get home. There’s no Bonolis Remote Control on Youtube anywhere is there?
5 Minutes to a Fortune averaged 758k (5.3%) excluding +1 yesterday. A new high, and stopped what was beginning to look like a worrying decline over 3 days.
Not sure where to put this, so I’ll stick it here: I’ve found the new episode of Battle for Money Sentouchuu that aired in Japan last Sunday: http://v.youku.com/v_show/id_XNTM5NTg0NzUy.html
