…and open to all. Come and join us if you fancy a game.
Lots and lots of interesting things this weekend, so to make sure it all doesn’t get lost, here’s a quick guide:
- Show Discussion of 5 Minutes to a Fortune.
- Last night I went and saw BBC1 Saturday night hope Reflex with Shane Ritchie from the makers of The Cube and here’s what I thought.
- Show Discussion of Catchphrase.
Please direct your opinions of the relevant shows in the relevant places, don’t go getting lost, now.
Thought you might like to know that OTHER game show with a giant hourglass started up this week..Money Time.
http://www.cuatro.com/money-time/
It’s slightly different than the pitch film- here’s the general rules:
-A team of two play; one team plays each show.
-They face 8 questions. Each question consists of 8 answers which they have to sort into YES or NO column based on if they fit the question given. The first question, 7 go in the YES column and 1 goes in the NO column, the 2nd, 6 in the YES and 2 in the NO, etc. (example question: Which 6 of these are Madonna songs?)
-After they see the question (but not the answers), they have 20 seconds to shovel coins from a cart filled with 100,000 coins into the hourglass. It’s based on weight; approximately 400 coins equal 1 second of time they have to sort the answers.
-After 7 questions, whatever money they have left over will be used for time on the last question. In this one they get to see the answers, but not the question at first, as this time they don’t know how many are supposed to go in each column.
-If they have at least one correct answer, they then get their first chance to bail out. This is where the first 7 questions and the money they had left come into play; If they got all 7 questions right, they can stop with 100% of the money they had remaining after question 7. However, 1 wrong answer in the first 7 questions cuts that amount to 50%. 2 wrong answers cut it to 10%. 3 wrong answers cut it to 5%, etc.
-If they decide to play on, they’re allowed to make changes if they want. The hostess will reveal if a few more of the answers are right, and if they are, will offer another chance to stop with a higher money amount than before. She might do it more than once.
-If a wrong answer is revealed here, they go home empty-handed. But if they go on and have everything right, they win the entire €100,000.
It looks interesting- a bit funny to see them shovel the coins in, but 8 questions in 45 minutes or so is a little slow. When I get a chance to see 5MTOF I might be able to compare things- the hourglass is about 6 feet high, and the coins go through with the appropriate clinking.
Cheers, will have a look later. It’s odd that two shows have come along with very similar premeses at the same time.
Interesting- the bailout offers in the final round can apparently go down as well…
Channel 4 doing one of these ‘distribution deals’, d’ya reckon?

It’s 24 Hour Quiz 2!
From the outset, this looks like the Dale Winton quiz show that ITV piloted last year, only it’s set in an airplane hanger;

I’m currently trying to look for full format details. To really put the nail in the coffin, Paddy McGuinness is hosting!
Ah, think this is a bit different, they were looking for groups of twelve in the contestant call for a start. Interesting, though. It’s for Channel Four as well.
Is it similar to Armoza Formats’ “The Sky Is The Limit”?

For your perusal- a new episode of Battle For Money (and there’s a new Run For Money episode next Sunday in Japan, so it’ll probably be available next Monday)….

Arigato gozaimasu, David!!! This will go down extremely well at my anime group this weekend 🙂
Ooh, fun! Thanks much for this.
Bit annoying for them to bother introducing Meteor’s actor with a voiceover and then not show him again until he gets eliminated.
Small ratings update;
Countdown – 416k (5.4%)
Common Denominator – 387k (4.7%)
Deal or No Deal – 1.05m (10.6%)
Five Minutes to a Fortune – 733k (5.2%)
I had a feeling that FMtaF would collapse in its timeslot. Well below slot average.
GSN in America has picked up a series of The Chase. Details here;

With The Beast, apparently! Amazing.
