What’s Mr Chips doing?

By | April 2, 2013

Well?

Catchphrase starts on Sunday.

Meanwhile Emma Willis has been promoted to Big Brother‘s main host. Great work, although as I tended to watch Bit on the Side more than the main show, what’s going to happen with that? Presumably Alice Levine will get more days. Rumours are suggesting Rylan who would be popular but smacks of stunt casting that might bit them on the backside later. We’ll see.

Alice joined BBC Radio 1 in January, doing 10pm – Midnight, Monday to Thursday. So she can’t really take on more than the weekends she is doing already. Unless Emma still does Mon-Thur then Alice on Fri-Sun.

That I think would be the ideal – it’s not like the main job is more than once/twice a week anyway.

This is looking worse and worse for Adventure Line. Everything about the situation is quite upsetting.

A couple of more articles seem to make it look that way- allegedly the producers didn’t want to stop shooting so they wouldn’t let the doctors work on the contestant for several minutes, then took him to the hospital via boat instead of helicopter because of the cost..They’re also looking into possible manslaughter charges, and the family has started legal proceedings…

Rumours being banded about that TF1 have dropped Koh Lanta (French Survivor) all together. Wouldn’t be surprising. Really really sad story. Thoughts with the families of both deceased men.

Really does bring things into perspective. Television shows like Survivor are meant to be fun and exciting to watch, not put people’s lives in danger. The production company will have some questions to answer. A manslaughter inquiry has been opened into the contestant’s death.

Knowing the answer to the 500k question and watching them fumble at it has never been so infuriating.

Random thought about original Catch Phrase that struck me: What was the point of the bell?

I’m guessing because early on it took a few seconds for the catchphrases to fully animate and they wanted the people at home to be able to see what was being drawn before someone buzzed in…

I read a reason unofficially suggesting it was to lower the rate of accrual at the time when you weren’t meant to give away more than £3k a show. I think the second series of this actually had a lower payout structure than the first one.

Did the US one have a bell? I’ve seen the US show and can’t remember.

Yes it did- and no money for solving tossups either, you only got money for solving the Bonus Catchphrase (which was determined by a money chase randomizer)..

Yes that bit I DO remember. It seemed a little odd.

There’s no money chase in New Catchphrase, which I think is a shame.
