Indications The Whole 19 Yards Might Not Be All That

By | February 19, 2010

A source told The Mirror: “It’s a huge hit in the US so they’re hoping it follows suit here.”

I would be intrigued to find out who this source is.

Vernon Kay and Caroline Flack are hosting if you hadn’t gathered already. Not convinced it requires two hosts, but I’m off to see an episode in March so we’ll see.

Rumours that Kay will be fronting a british version of The Phone are completely made-up.

Meanwhile, today’s leading search referal is “how dangerous will 101 ways to leave a gameshow be?” to which the answer is VERY, VERY DANGEROUS.

“Vernon Kay and Caroline Flack are hosting if you hadn’t gathered already.”

Oh well, two reasons not to watch.

well strangely enough i like both these hosts. caroline flack has proved herself on kids tv (as all good hosts have) with escape from scorpion island (the confusing series, she almost made it understandable!) and tmi, the only saturday morning show since smtv. and vernon is good too.

Not all good hosts. Still, yes, kids tv is harder to present than normal tv, according to Charlie Brooker.

Does anyone remember the name of that “Style Challenge”-with-trapdoors format that was floating around a while back, or who was supposed to be making it?

World of Wonder Productions, called Fashion Drop. It’s being made into a pilot for the cable channel Oxygen in America.

Some random thoughts on The Bubble:

    -David Mitchell can’t host.
-Other than that, it’s actually quite good. Will very much depend on who’s on it as to whether it’s good or not, but there are plenty of good guests to go around.
-Major points for using the ‘BBC journalists banned from making fake reports for The Bubble’ story as one of the real stories.
    -David Mitchell can’t host.

I disagree about David Mitchell, but agree about it being quite good. Certainly the most I’ve laughed at a comedy quiz since the QI Acropolis outtake.

Although I note David Mitchell is better on that radio quiz where the panelists talk about a subject and have to sneak in five falsehoods. undetected by the other panelists.

The Unbelievable Truth. I heard it on a plane going to Greece last year and thought it was rather good, yeah.

And one of the rounds has been lost on the way from Israil where the format origninate from to over here.
False news report round – check
      False newspaper story round- check
False newspaper headline round – check
Mystery person from the week in news – ummm. Search party please
It was this round I was looking most forward too – its where a person from the news is wheeled on and one of the three reasons for them being in the papers this week is given.

By the way, anyone else spot the slight flaw in the false report news round? If they get a celeb who is media-savvy and can hear the monotone delivery in the voiceover during the two made-up news reports, and can see the film stock footage used to pad it out instead of the usual vt quality of news reports and Hat-Trick are totally sunk.

I have a suspicion that the “which story was actually printed in a newspaper” round may have a typographic tell, inasmuch as they showed the text of the article of the fakes – though the IStink one did look like quite a convincing The Sun mark-up – but the real article was shown in toto and thus looked distinct. Perhaps they may remedy this for future weeks.

I thought it was reasonably entertaining and will probably watch again, but this doesn’t strike me as an instant classic. Not quite as funny as it might be, perhaps.

I’m not sure what to make of The Bubble really. It exists and it’s not too offensive, I think is the most excited I can get about it if I’m being honest.

I understand that there were several rounds used that weren’t broadcast, so it must eat up material like nobody’s business.

Oh jeez- I was watching one of the previews for Minute to Win It- and they really stole from The Cube. The voice that introduces and starts the game said “You have 3 lives remaining”….

I had a dream last night in which I managed to delete almost all of Bother’s Bar by including some malicious code in one of my comments, in the style of little Bobby tables. Brig was very, very unhappy with me indeed, oddly enough. Thankfully only a dream.
