Has anyone got the Golden Balls board game?

By | February 19, 2013

Right. So. It looks like I’m going to be charged with trying to arrange a Golden Balls board game tournament for a party thing on Friday. They want to play with real money (as in everyone puts a stake in). My argument is that this is likely to be a terrible idea, not for the arguments (which I suspect are part of the comedy) but mainly because it’s going to be quite an unwieldly thing to do with eight or more people. If you want the prisoner’s dilemma, it’s probably best you play something else and then do it with the final two.

Still that’s what they want so that’s what I’m going to attempt to give them. I think I know how I’m going to approach this. The thing is I don’t have a copy of the game and you know what they say about forewarned being forearmed. If you’ve got a copy, would you mind letting me know what’s in all the balls? I understand they are reversable, the more information the better. Thanks in advance. I will let you know what happens, should you want to play the Golden Balls board game for actual real stakes yourself.

Here’s the list in no particular order. tabs are doubled sided so 75k/100 means £75k on one side and £100 on the other (i.e you can’t use both at once!)

    25k/10k
    16k/750
    60k/7.5k
    500/750
    20k/2.5k
    500/7k
    2.5k/800
    70k/1k
    8k/400
    2k/75
    1500/250
    75k/2k
    10k/200
    40k/5k
    1k/10
    14k/1500
    30k/100
    100/50
    50k/250
    12k/18k
    3k/900
    7.5k/5k
    4k/25
    15k/6k
    25k/700

You also get 6 killer tabs (both sides)and 2 split and 2 steal tabs

You get 23 balls to use though 9 are used for split/steal and killers (you add one tab if you unlucky enough to get all 6 killers)

tabs are fiddly so pre prep is advised

Incidentally I acquired a Golden Balls game in December 2011 and set about assigning the balls such that it’d work as a Bank Job simulation with family over Christmas. Never happened. Would have been smoother than the real show was a week later.

If you have exactly 8 I’d go 2 sets of 4 playing the usual way with each show’s finalists taking their “heat” winnings as a bonus prize and a place in the “final” regardless of the Split/Steal outcome. (Not so great if you all want to play at once, that, though as there’d be quite a bit of watching rather than playing!)

Aside from that, check out this “Unofficial Bother’s Bar Merchandise” – scroll down a bit and you will see a Ratings Bear T-Shirt!

And aside from that, good Pointless today including only the 2nd (I think) 100-point correct answer scored and only the 2nd (I think) blind-guess Pointless answer.

    Some Italian news.

    Last night’s ratings (19th February).

    Avanti un Altro 5,261,000 (23.72%)
    L’eredità 4,273,00 (21.03%)
    Affari Tuoi 6,978,000 viewers (22.65%)

Some time ago on Affari Tuoi someone accepted the first offer after opening six boxes. On Monday’s show another contestant pulled the same stunt by accepting the first offer but this time it came after he opened three boxes. He removed Pacco Y, €5,000 and Pacco Matto. Received an offer of €35,000, which he accepted from The Doctor. He left €50,000 and €100,000 at the end with €50,000 in his box.

Also, Italy are rolling out their version of Red or Black this Friday. Where the UK version ran for 90 minutes. Their version will run for 145 mins. Nearly 2 and a half hours.

I picked up a copy of the Golden Balls game from a charity shop today for the rather nice price of £2. The game is ALMOST complete, all that’s missing is the instructions

EDIT: I now have the instructions. I emailed Vivid Imaginations and they emailed me a PDF

        Hi Andrew
Any chance you could post a copy of the PDF as I also need the instructions and vivid imaginations website is down for maintenance. Thanks very much in advance
