Merry Christmas readers, Bother’s Bar will be on minimum updates over Christmas period (which is different to when? – Everyone in the World) but I will still be around, and will certainly be on Twitter.
So here are some things for you to do and look forward to over the next week or so:
- Tonight it’s the Fort Boyard Christmas Special on France 2 at 7:35pm UK time. We’ll be watching it on Pluzz through a VPN, although on previous form it will almost certainly be up on Youtube in some capacity before the night is out. The New Year’s special is next Saturday also.
- Tonight it’s ALSO, we think, the Avanti un Altro Survived the Apocalypse special on Italy’s Canale 5, although you’ll be able to watch it online later. If it wasn’t on last year it’d almost certainly top the international section of the UKGameshows.com Poll of 2012 I reckon.
- Speaking of which that’s coming in the New Year. In the meantime I currently have a poll up re: the Bother Series of Poker. If you have an interest in playing it’d be nice if you could fill it in.
- This Monday it’s Fifty 50 Show, featuring the 21 Questions Wrong CHRISTMAS SPECIAL! And we wouldn’t call it a special if it wasn’t SPECIAL…
- Channel 5 continue to do World’s Strongest Man wrong, Thursday at 8pm.
- Next Saturday there’s a lot on – Superstars 2012 on BBC1 at 6:45 and Dale’s Great Getaway ay ITV1 at 8:30. Show discussion posts will go up for these two in due course, and you can read what we thought about Great Getaway as we went to the recording.
Also maybe you got a new iThing for Christmas. Well we will try and update our list of iThing gameshow reviews over the festive period. If you want to know if a gameshow app is good and it’s not up there then feel free to ask in the interim.

Today’s Avanti un Altro! has now finished airing in Italy. Definitely one to watch on the catch up service. When everything has to go wrong it had to be today.
well, at least the Jinx got some love!
according to a person who was at the taping, the last segment of the front game was heavily edited, mostly because of the last contestant, who apparently was taking suggestions from a friend. a lenghty discussion between Bonolis and judge Salvati about the matter was cut, and they had to cut a few jokes as well.
I noticed the last contestant had assistance from the audience. Naughty!
they got off easily because the show was in Rome. In Italy gameshows is usually either “Milan-type” or “Rome-type”: in Milan they are more serious and they care that protocols are followed; in Rome protocols are made to be broken and rules to be bent if it makes the show more fun.
an exception is L’Eredità, which is taped in Rome, but friends of contestants are instructed to sit behind the contestant, so that they can’t see each other (and cheating friends will be caught on camera).
if a contestant is moved to another podium, the friend moves along.
instead on Chain Reaction you are expected to answer AFTER your time is up. the host will scold you if you answer within the time limit. ^_^

I’m also liking the Christmas specials of Affari Tuoi at the moment. With Pacco Natale replacing €50,000 and when opened a good looking Father Christmas comes onto the set with filthy looks of jealously from Max.
I understand they have given them another contract extension so the current run will end in May than the original end of December and the revised end date of March. Is this true?
Affari Tuoi ends on May 4th; it’s Avanti Un Altro which was renewed until March 10th
however I know that Avanti Un Altro will not air on December 24th, 25th, 26th and on January 1st and 2nd. I don’t know about the other shows, but I believe that they’ll air reruns

To be honest im slightly dissapointed in it. While there was a few good players there was some let down (Spoilers) I felt Caroline got given easy games yet still had a 100% loss rating in the show. although a very nice choice of games were picked for this episode. Im starting to feel the fort is beginning to lose abit of its magic there seems to be something when u get to the clue games that dies down the show.
Im hoping the New year speical next weekend will be better.
Did feel like the clue section did drag a bit this time, not sure why.
The presents game. Dayam. Sure hope those boxes WERE empty.
Branhard was just awesome, and shows it needs to be used more. 😀
Trying not to spoil it, but glad to see a certain game *finally* lost, kinda surprised at just how badly it needs to be played to be lost, though.
Ratings wise its in 4th place with 2.6million thats 100,000 less than there halloween speical

Channel 5 actually start doing World’s Strongest Man RIGHT from tonight – daily heats up to a New Year’s Day Final. It was just the Qualifiers that were on weekly, I think.
