Poker with Jonathan Ross

By | December 6, 2012

This has sneaked up on us, Jonathan Ross is fronting a poker entertainment pilot filming this Saturday, the idea being that Ross, four of his celebrity friends and a Pokerstars qualifier will be playing for charity. Emphasis on entertainment rather than poker. Stefan Raab does this sort of thing occasionally as well.

If you’re free in London on Saturday, why not apply for a ticket? I’d dearly love to go but I’m busy. Guests are Victoria Coren, Boris Becker, John Bishop and Jason Manford, so basically proper celebs running the gamut of ability. Also if you go, let us know if it’s any good, ta.

This Jonathan Ross idea sounds incredibly similar to Raab’s. Pokerstars qualifier etc.. Will be really interested to see how it works.

More to the point, when did the qualifying tournament take place on PS?

Bit of news for you all, I’ve heard on Facebook that awesome Australian quiz ’31 Questions’ will be back for a second season in early 2013. I’m excited for it…but are YOU? 😀

Here’s a Thing to cheer up a dull Saturday. Fingers crossed that it doesn’t spring the spam trap for having lots of links in.

I was browsing through Brig’s brilliant Jacques Antoine celebration, as part of Operation “Kill All The Tabs That I’ve Had Open For Months”, and started searching for more information about the man, the myth, the legend, the nearly-palindromic-surname Jocelyn Hattab. Turns out he has an Italian Wikipedia page with quite a bit of info, including links to some pages about some of his shows, an apparently official web site (though it’s on the old side, and not desperately well-populated) and most interestingly a YouTube channel. Piles of Oca and lots of his other shows as well. If I had to pick out one video, I’d point to Conto Su Di Te, the Italian version of the (Antoine co-produced) money-counting/distraction format. It has a proper old-school stereotypically Italian big-budget Saturday night pre-credits intro sequence and the credits are quite fun as well. No gameplay, though.

I notice there’s also a few clips of Sherlock Holmes which I remember watching at the time and didn’t really have a clue what was going on. Effectively it was one of those Crystal Maze treasure hunts expanded a bit and all done at a table.

Poker liveblog: here. In theory, at least, as the event should have started half an hour ago and nary a hand has been described. SPOILERS! Oh.
