At last!

By | December 4, 2012

Finally, FINALLY counting to thirty in your head will become all the rage as The National Lottery Break the Safe becomes an actual reality. Nick Knowles to host, broadcast 2013.

I hope they’ve made it a bit… better in the interim. It will replace Secret Fortune.

Also of interest, STV/Wild Rover working on a high stakes game featuring comedy pilot for the BBC. Avanti un Altro shows this can work very well, so intrigued to see what becomes of it.

In other news, the ALL NEW Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge (it’s just UK teens this time AS I PREDICTED) begins its new sixty minute (well, 55) episode run on Saturday at 8:30 on ITV1, ITV1 HD AND the CITV Channel, continuing on Sunday at the same time on the same channels, the French Boyard Christmas Special will be going out on the 22nd December where it will be up against the Xmas special of Dancing With The Stars.

Am I the only one hoping someone on Break the Safe will sing the Countdown theme trying to time 30 seconds?

Break The Safe sounds like a nifty concept, so I’ll be on the lookout for that one, maybe even try and be a contestant if a call takes place.

We most DEFINITELY need a version of Avanti Un Altro over here, though!

I think I saw them use that category before a few weeks ago, I remember the contestant having to wiggle their ears and Judge Salvati having to rule as to whether it was good enough.

Despite trying, I don’t seem to be able to access Broadcast Now via Google and ‘that way’, so all I know is the Wednesday night draw show is being canned (I guess replaced by a caption and voicer by the duty continuity announcer at 10.35) and Secret Fortune is being ‘rested’.

    Any reason given?
Apart from a run of high prizemoney payouts in the last series it wasn’t a bad quizzer for a Saturday night. Better than the tredmillish In It To Win It – which no doubt will be back again, with the same set, the same music, the same gameplay, the same graphics, the same over long ponderious responses to the questions, yawnnn.

Yep, they have recommissioned both Who Dares Wins (8 shows) and In It to Win It (16 shows) for 2013. The fact remains that Secret Fortune struggled to get inside BBC One’s top 30 shows on most weeks. Compared to In It to Win It who can get a respectable 4-5 million when it was head to head with Britain’s Got Talent.

Fort Boyard Christmas Speical looking good. Really shocked on how much effort has actually been made (Although the spare ice they stick into games is probley from chamber froid)

While the subject includes a CITV show I’m giving an early heads up for 30 Years of CITV on 29th December, ITV1. It’s definitely going to have some gameshow content because I helped pick the featured shows. More excitement for the anniversary in the new year as well as I’ve been working on the schedules today. I guarantee the schedules for that week will be surprising.

Shame to see Secret Fortune losing out to In It To Win It, I like Secret Fortune, which is more than can be said for most lottery shows and it’s a smart idea. The questions are a bit harder than ‘In It’ though and the definite correct answer isn’t made so clear so I can see why it isn’t ‘mass market’. Any chance of a new series of Big Ticket?! Probably not I suppose.

It’s official so I can speak now!

CITV will be having a Retro Weekend to celebrate it’s 30th Anniversary next month. On the 5th and 6th of January we’ll be showing shows from right across the last 30 years. Everything from Wizadora to Woof.

We’ve also got a healthy bit of gameshow content across the weekend, Neil’s Finders Keepers, Fun House and Early Jungle Run are all back with us along with two specially chosen episodes of Knightmare. By ‘specially’ I mean that I chose them, so please dont hate me if they’re not your favourites, I did have to work within specific criteria.

This, along with our documentary on ITV1 should be a really great celebration of all things CITV. Hopefully we’ll have your favourites but the list was very long and the day’s very short!

So the BBC has renewed its contract with Camelot, after all…

According to Het Grauniad on 26 November, Camelot were not thought to have talked to rival broadcasters – so I presume that this reduced contract (televising the Saturday draws only) is yet another cost-cutting measure by Auntie.

Sad, but not tremendously surprised, to learn that Secret Fortune probably won’t be renewed. I can’t help but wonder if the Beeb had already lost interest in the show by the time the third series began…
