It’s a video of a gameplay walkthrough of a board game! But it looks ridiculously cool, and quite likely to appeal to people from these parts!

Yes, read about this last week, really love the concept, think you could probably make a fun format out of some of the ideas as well.

I’m a real sucker for Games With Soundtracks Especially Free Downloadable Ones, obv.

In fact here is A Thing – what shows have there been that have used “drop everything!” as a central conceit other than the kid’s show Mousetrap? You’d have thought it would work quite well in a modern television environment.

Oh Sit? It’s a stretch, but there is the fact they’re running to earn money then have to run for a chair..

Unan1mous, I guess? (The entire point being that at intervals unknown to the contestants they’d be asked to drop what they were doing to vote on who should get the cash)

Not really the same thing at all, however.

For the mechanic in Escape!, specifically, the closest game show equivalent I can think of is the ‘hide from the plod’ bit of the Grave Robbers end game of Gory Games, though since that’s a race and sets people back different amounts depending on where they are when it occurs it comes across very differently.

Might be a couple of Mole games that do something similar.

If the impossible (And undesirable) happens and we ever get a sequel to 24 Hour Quiz I can imagine that working with Krypton Factor intelligence tests popping up for big bonuses far enough from the quiz arena that you can’t just nip back every thirty seconds to answer questions.

Which is how you’d want to go, really – Make it nominally optional to drop everything to go here/do this thing, but make the incentive for doing so large enough that it’s normally in your best interest to do so, or give a sizable penalty for not doing. Probably a mini-game is more entertaining to watch than just ‘get to this place’ unless getting to the place is a race of some kind (In which case do you lean towards advantaging the trailing players or the leading players, assuming the entire format has a physical representation – It’d be essentially the same mechanism as Sale of the Century if you went for small prizes, do you try and get something now at cost to your game performance or do you use the opportunity for others to sacrifice their performance to extend your lead/help you come back into the game)

I suppose the hideously, unwatchably complicated (*) 19 Keys did something vaguely comparable with the way that “contestants trying a key to attempt to win the game” acted as an interruption to the ongoing quiz.

          (*) i.e. p-easy.

the Alien of Avanti Un Altro! got an injured malleolus, and will not be on the show for some time.
a substitute will take his place for now.

    get well soon!
