Word Up!

By | November 1, 2012

Join us at 6pm where we will be launching Bother’s Bar’s Christmas Bonus competition, the ever popular infuriating word association game Word Up! There’s £75 to be won if you are basically psychic.

Word Up! What’s the codeword?

In other news, Olympic Superstars coming to BBC1 soon. Audience tickets.

We started discussing Channel 4’s new afternoon output (The Common Denominator, Race the Clock, Four Rooms) as revealed in Broadcast here.

But from November 12th, Countdown pushed back to 2:40 to accommodate Sandi Toksvig’s new quiz 1001 Things You Should Know.

Not sure if this has been posted elsewhere, but 1001 Things You Should Know with Sandi Toksvig is starting on C4 Monday 12th November at 3.30.

Countdown pushed back to 2.40. Can they still call it the Teatime Teaser?

Sadly I agree, I can’t see how much longer they’ll keep the old ship afloat.

But then again, what else could they make for the same money (in these times of ours) that would command such audience loyalty? I expect the figures will be good for a 2:40pm slot, albeit obviously a mere fragment of the millions who used to tune in when it occupied the DoND slot.

Lewis Murphy comes up with an interesting idea in Fifty50 tomorrow – what about going the whole hog and sticking it on at lunchtimes? I actually think that’s a rather clever idea.

I guess one thing Countdown does have going for it is now C4 are looking towards a full daytime schedule, so it could continue and get closer and closer to lunch.

It wouldn’t be so bad for Countdown if they cut Deal back to 45 minutes and then put Countdown at 3pm – as surely sharing a junction with BBC1 and ITV1 shows will only help it.

Wow. A Superstars post-Olympic Christmas special.
    How very predictable.
However, good to see that it’s being done in front of a audience though.

Would rather see a new series of ‘International King Of Sports’ though..

Seeing an end to the last series filmed might be a good start…

On the subject, I always wondered if the ‘Dutch’ announcer on IKOS was just Richard Osman putting on a comedy voice, can anyone confirm or deny?

So, looking at your Twitter, it’s “Matthew Kelly’s gag writer on You Bet!” aka Simon Greenall.
I have now just lost a bet running over a number of years, but I don’t particularly mind.

This is a bit of a surprise I think, but I knew it wasn’t Richard.

Also surprising, that Simon Greenall wrote for Matthew Kelly.

I think he’s credited on all the Kelly episodes of the show as Script Associate (with all that that implies). Amusingly, the first series (Ellis Ward era) have it spelt Green*h*all for some reason.

Makes sense though, both comics, both working in Manchester…

Well, that went wrong, I meant to link to the somments page of that which said:

Quite like MK’s gentle pisstake of Bunty Bagshawe whenever she Talks Like That. Amazing the amount of fuss that was made about Brian Johnston when he died less than two years after this.
Didn’t realise until now that Simon Greenall had been script associate on You Bet!, which really embodies a lot of LWT’s virtues without its vices (for which see Surprise Surprise).

It was a mistake to link to it? Good sort of mistake. Add your own Ayyyyyyy like it! gag here, Mikey.

Ha ha ha, sorry – WordPress will automatically assume you want to embed the video if you just put the Youtube link in. Not sure the way round it.

I’m saying he was a gag writer, presumably that’s what the script associate would be doing on such an endeavour (I know Richard Easter did the same on Stars in their Eyes, so it was clearly a common practice for MK). I don’t think he did it alone, but that’s the name that stuck in my mind when watching the repeats.

Just glad I can share a trivia tidbit, although I assumed it was fairly common knowledge.

Meanwhile, Countdown comments aside, all things permitting I’ll be auditioning for The Common Denominator this week. Feel free to nudge me on Twitter later this week and I’ll let you know my thoughts.
