Time Extend

“Daytime Competition Show” (apparently) Countdown has been given another two years.

So that’s nice isn’t it?

ALSO! Episode 01 of The Line Up has been recorded, and it’s a PROPER CELEBRITY SPECIAL featuring Ian Symes from Big Brother’s Bit On The Side and long time friend of the Bar Tom Scott from Gadget Geeks. It is PROPERLY EXCITING, if you can get past my terrible hosting, featuring interesting questions and question arrangements, new beds and a new exciting catchphrase.

Ian’s doing a walk for Cancer Research on Saturday. You should bung him a few quid.

“Time Extend” made me think that the idea of a gameshow based on the game mechanics of Outrun bandied about here a while back was going to happen :/

Perhaps it should be a Countdown remix. Here’s thirty seconds, solve a numbers game (Checkpoint!) and a Conundrum (Checkpoint! Time Extend!!) then get a seven-letter word out of this assortment of nine etc. Keep going until you take excessively long, with the puzzles getting harder and harder, or until you solve (e.g.) ten puzzles (GOAL!!) or crash off the road and get Rachael Riley wagging her finger at you. Lose the donk-a-dink-a-links and play Magical Sound Shower instead.

Are we absolutely sure this is Channel 4’s press office re-writing genres, and not (for instance) Broadcast Magazine showing the usual quality of churnalism?

As for news of the week, may I propose a score from the ratings war? England Men’s Football 4.58m, The Chase With Celebrities 4.58m, The Great British Bake Off 4.61m.

Good that Countdown has been given another two years – though I hope Nick Hewer hasn’t.

That’s the wonder of statistics, though. It’s adding 100k (actually 70k, even by their own figures) to our lowest show.

The overnights to date have been:
      Prog 1 905k
      Prog 2 819k
      Prog 3 892k
      Prog 4 739k
      Prog 5 809k

No idea what happened with show 4 other than there was a popular footie match on. We tend to lose some viewers in the middle of the series as some people start to realise they can use catch-up or iPlayer.
