Board of Excitement 2nd-8th September 2012

By | September 2, 2012

Does the thought of James Corden, Jack Whitehall and Jamie Redknapp in their swimwear appeal? Well Thursday is the time of the ONLY event where you can see this live.

  • Only Connect – Heat two features TEFL teachers vs IT specialists. TFI Monday. (8:30pm, BBC4, Monday)
  • The Line-Up – Episode 00 of Bother’s Bar’s very own pub quiz will be going out at about 9pm on Monday. Look out for EXCLUSIVE sleevenotes on the The Line Up page, including how QuizQuizQuiz graded the questions.
  • Fort Boyard in Dutch. Goes out on Monday, but you can already watch Episode one online if you like. First series was 7/10 I thought.
  • All Star Mr and Mrs. New series in an odd slot, Wednesday night. This week feating Patsy Palmer, John Prescott and Nicky Byrne. Pip Schofield hosting on his own as well. (Wednesday, 8pm, ITV1)
  • Britain’s Top Dog Model – yes it’s a dog modelling show. By 12 Yard. Commisioned before Pudsey won Britain’s Got Talent, which is amazing timing or a bit sinister depending on your point of view. (Wednesday, 8pm, ITV2)
  • Celebrity Big Brother – The Final. (Friday, 9pm, Five)

In case you’re wondering, new episodes of Deal or No Deal are on More 4 at 3:20pm this week because of the Paralympics.

Someone else has uploaded an episode of GSN’s new version of Pyramid (the old link, which Brig tweeted, no longer works… maybe this one doesn’t have long either). It’s always a good game, and the slight scoring twists in the new version are very logical and if anything an improvement.

This version does seem rather noisier than I remember or would expect, which probably means I’m getting old. The judging is fairly loose, which is no bad thing, and the celebrities are very good; I enjoyed the Donny version on Challenge and its sense of humour, but often thought that the celebrities were often less skilful at playing the game than would make for the best show. As Brig has observed, the direction is zoomier than The Little Green Man’s friend, but at least the zooms are not of the crash variety. In short: worthy and will keep you going until tonight’s UC/OC/LI triple bill. Hurrah!

The Pyramid (USA) officially premiered (as opposed to “sneak previewed”) on Monday, and here’s the first half. (Part 2 is in the sidebar.) I think it’s not understatement to say that they GET IT.

Thanks for sharing – and thanks to the uploader, too! This is a fun, fun show; both celebrities were very good, especially Yvette Nicole Brown. The zoom-o-meter got up to at least 27 and even that is counting conservatively. A definite contender for the overseas award at the end of the year.

The Italian version of Deal or No Deal, Affari Tuoi was suppose to return tonight but it seems that is not the case. Although it’s on the RAI website giving with the return date of 3rd September. Does any Italian viewers who lurk on here know why?

In Germany the childrens gameshow “Runaround” (it’s called “1, 2, oder 3” in Germany) has its 35th Birthday this saturday (on ZDF). It will be hosted by Elton (“Blamieren oder kassieren”), who is also the normal host, and by Jörg Pilawa, the German host of the “million pound drop”. I think it’s quiet interesting since this (the German one) is the only version of the show, that is still produced and it’s very beloved (also featured in one of the most successful German films).

And also interesting: Next year the German “TV lab” will allow viewers to send in their ideas for TV formats. You might even have the chance to participate (we’ll see in october, when “ZDFneo” will release more information).
