This year’s new Fort Boyard things!

By | June 19, 2012

OK this is very exciting so thanks to FortBoyard.net for the list and pictures, it’s this year’s batch of new games!

By the looks of it there are just three new tests and ten new adventures, although by the sounds of it some of these new adventures may well be tests. Of note, Gagarin is this year’s twist on Pere Fouras’ riddle – now they must try and solve it whilst being spun round in a gyroscope. From the Earth to the Moon is a reversioning of the Chapel Clock, and Red Alert is a reversioning of Topkapi, both of which were great games but it’s a shame they don’t have new ideas. At least a number of the old games are going to have visually themed rooms.

The Percolator and the Cold Room are listed as adventures but sound more like key tests. Otherwise 101 Ways to Leave a Gameshow seems to have inspired the Inverse Tyrolene (no news as to whether this will be played in tandem with old ship Tyrolene that’s been bought back for the special night time editions) and the Anvil. The Elastic Jump is back with a new focus, just as much on the rest of the team as the jumpee.

Very much looking forward to it, as there are still details yet to be discerned – rule changes, new challenges in the Hall of Judgement and the Council.

The first episode is on July 7th and Saturdays thereafter, but it will be taking a short break for the Olympics.

I’m counting nine adventures for some reason.

Also I wouldn’t be surprised if they played Percolator for keys. It looks like a sideways Tirlitournette.

Hang on, i think the site has it wrong. Look at the the rules for the Perculator it says “libérer la clé” at the end of the first line and the Cold Room says “voit la clé suspendue” in the first line. If it is an adventure why is it talking about releasing keys?

Yeah 5/7 looks like a better balance of new key/clue games than 3/9, especially as you get through a LOT more key games in an ep.

According to the forum, the guy who wrote the article sounds like he’s been handed the production bible for the series, suggests that Percolator may well be a key game but the Cold Room is definitely listed as an adventure.

    Also you’re right, 3 + 9 equals 12.

Nonono, the site says there’s 10 adventures, but I’m counting nine there.

Yes i get that bit, the page says 13 new games, 3 are tests that means 10 are adventures, but it only lists 9.

Ah, I thought you were calling me out for stating the obvious or something.

          Never mind, my brain’s broken.

To be fair. The fort needed more clue games. Rather than key games. I mean 2/14 key games per team would be cellure interactive and 1 riddle. Meaning its only 11 games u need to account for.

Not sure I buy it. Crystal Maze came up with 50 new games a year, three isn’t very good really, especially as the tests are where the majority of the time is taken up. They can get away with visually tarting up old games this year as a point of interest, next year it will not be enough.

Really looking forward to seeing Menotte Immergée (Underwater Handcuff)in action. It seems like it will be a much tougher challenge that the existing underwater adventures.

Possibly the key in the cold room unlocks a code holder at the end of the course as in the aerial challenge on the unicycle from previous years.

The code itself couldn’t be attached to the pipe as you’d just be able to read it at the start, instead of doing the whole course?

      Yep that would make sense.

The underwater handcuff sounds excitingly dangerous. “He may be released and abandon the test at any time by pulling the safety of the handcuffs.”

And after an incident during the recording of The Mole, we have had another accident in the Netherlands during production, this time a candidate on Fort Boyard. He fell down during a challenge from ropes and swings, and landed on his back… He was KO for a short time, but is recovering atm for the next 6 weeks.

So, all is going well here…

      Sounds like Salle de tortures.
      Being taken almost literally, there.

      Blimey.

If it was the Torture Chamber that’s pretty unfortunate as the floor is well padded – must have taken a nasty fall off the horizontal ladder at the end to land on his back.

Expect it will get retired for 2013.
