Tipping Point

By | June 13, 2012

Friend of the Bar @tvscoops has suggested that ITV have a 20 episode order for a new daytime show called Tipping Point based on those 2p machines you get at arcades, penny falls. Interesting idea, does anyone know anything?

Edit: And Ben Sheperd’s hosting it.

    Tipping Point

Tipping Point is inspired by the iconic and mesmerising arcade game commonly known as ‘Penny Falls’, which for nearly 100 years has been entertaining and frustrating players around the world! Tipping Point is in a proud tradition of classic game shows driven by an epic visual studio prop.

    The details

    20 x 60 minute episodes in early Q3 2012
ITV1 Daytime slot (subject to change)
    80 seconds accreditation per show

    60mins is quite long, isnt?

I originally thought it was going for the Chase slot, but I remembered the pilot for Hold On To Your Seat was an hour long and intended for earlier in the day.

I would hope there’s slightly more to it than get a question right, stick a 2p in the slot and hope that £5 note isn’t glued on to the end of the platform. But it could be an *epic* prop.

Curious that it doesn’t mention the word ‘quiz’ in the itvmedia sponsorship trawl. It’s got to have some form of quiz in the format surely?

Also not getting too excited over the ‘epic studio prop’. Bet it’ll just be a couple of massive LED screens bolted together in the middle of the studio floor.

My grandfather was apparently one of the first to build those machines in the UK.

      He called them Shove Offs.

I think the standard industry term for them these days is ‘pushers’ isn’t it?

It’s being made by RDF, for the Chase slot. It used to be called Cashcade I think. They’ve had to tweak the format to avoid issues with gaming law, like Red or Black.

Unless something’s changed the host is a household name with lots of game show experience, who will probably be seen as a moderate coup for ITV daytime…these days.

It’ll be interesting to see how a coin pusher can be incorporated into a game show. They did it with a slot machine in Spin Star and that was rather good.

    Colour me interested…

Also, Challenge’s website has a little Retro Arcade thing going on. They only have 2 games on at the mo, Pong and Snake. Highest scorers on both games by the 26th get a Challenge t-shirt.

Well, the high-score competition’s ended and I can reveal the winners. A certain Mr Paul Orsmond won Pong and I won Snake, so we both won a Challenge t-shirt.

The host has changed since I last heard anything a few weeks back.

Are you able to reveal who was orignally lined up for it? I mean I don’t *mind* Ben Sheperd, but I can’t say that makes it a must-see prospect.
