What is on this weekend?

By | May 12, 2012
  • The Voice is on, and so is the Britain’s Got Talent Final. How will they hilariously spin the ratings?
  • Scream Extreme starts tomorrow on Watch at 8pm, which is like normal Scream If You Know The Answer but set in America.
  • It’s round 10 of the Bother Series of Poker Sunday night at 8pm. £5.50 to enter, do come and join us.
  • Meanwhile Fort Boyard 2012 details are slowly being drip fed out and it all sounds very exciting, this year looks like it’s going to be similar to last year in terms of rules but with many more ideas in terms of room theming. This forum thread is worth keeping an eye on. Pictures start page 8 or so. One new game seems to involve a coffee perculator. Filming starts in a fortnight.

BTW unlike what they say, it has been decided if any UK Chasers will carry over. They are taping two pilots. One with a UK Chaser and one new US one. People will be pleased with the choices. No, it’s not Ken Jennings.

Perimeter on The Cube always seems like a very harsh game for £1,000 – Especially when Simplify makes it so much easier!

Anyone else been to one of the current crop of The Chase Celebs being recorded at ITV London?

I was at the first of them yesterday afternoon (I won’t spoil it – but the team won) and Brad mentioned something almost in passing which threw me slightly.
He said in the rules ramble before the first chase, that if the contestant didn’t know the answer to the question, a member of the team behind could buzz in and answer it for them.
I don’t know what he was on about, as A) It never happened in the recording and B) Under the usual Chase rules this can’t happen, because by the time another member of the team spotted what was going on, the player in the chase would have been timed out on the 5 second rule. Just wondering if anyone has heard of this one before – or has it been mentioned in passing before as a twist unique to the charity variant?

Now 3 paragraphs for the anoraks – probably because of the US tapings on Tuesday, there is a slight graphics and set tweak. The Chasers red arrow on the table now has a rather nice bevelved/grey shading added to it rather than solid red.

Also, there is no longer a circular ‘island’ where Brad stands separate to the contestant area.

The main stage is rather nice under floor lit rounded wedge shape, with the contestant table at the wide end, narrowing to a point finishing under the table – which itself now has changing LED lights in frosted plastic casing running along the underside the whole way around it.

Changes to the on screen graphics, or music and stings.

Just over 3 bloody hours to get through it. Never underestimate tv’s abillity to mess about, drag heels and generally waste time – for no apparent reason.
    Good knockabout fun though.

Cheers Mart, I can’t believe a relatively simple quiz can take that long to film.

I know there are people going to the US recordings, so I’m going to be interested to see what they think.

Because they usually do in the celebrity versions…as long as they’re not against Anne.

Ahh, but I didn’t say who was part of the team. However as there a 6 being recorded I suppose that does indicate that the chasers don’t go through this series undefeated.

Alex, sit down. Anne was the chaser.
Like Pointless where so much is edited out, she was coming out with some brilliant dry comments – most of which will end up on the edit room floor. End of taping she got one of the biggest rounds if applause! Yes, 3 hours was a long old slog but its the celeb /chaser banter that will never be shown that made it worthwhile. And during some recording breaks, Brad kept the audience going taking over more than once from the next to useless warm up man.

Sorry, Brig. I don’t think he namechecked himself (to be honest during most recording breaks, I was too busy gawping at the cameras, the lights, one of the make-up girls etc) but at first I thought he was the AFM.

To go all Crimewatch here, he was around 5ft3 – 5ft5, stocky build, short stubbly hair, occasional glasses, with a nice voice on him (maybe a advert voiceover man?), but was never without his production shooting script, and admitted at least twice he’d never watched a full edition of the show…

..a gag, obviously. But when I heard him ask the gent sitting four seats along my row, to explain the rules of the final chase to him so he could explain it to the rest of the audience. Very poor.

Interesting, don’t think I’ve come across a warm-up that fits that description. Ta anyway.

    Penultimate line should read..

“There are no changes to the on screen graphics, or music and stings”

Not really feeling Scream Extreme, hour format more ponderous, Colin Murray too full-on. Feels like Total Wipeout is an inspiration for silliness, which is a reasonable idea, but it feels rather more unfocussed here. Pity.

That was quite good fun, thanks. I’m intrigued to know what were behind the other numbers, although I guess we’ll never know.
