The Bank Job is up for a BAFTA.

By | April 24, 2012

No it’s alright, they’re not just giving them out to any old show these days, it’s up for the New Media award i.e. it’s got a fairly fun online game.

Digital Spy has a full list of nominees,  the only real other interest from the genre’s point of view as far as I can see is that Celebrity Juice is also up for an audience award.

Edit: and The Young Apprentice.

Nothing giving them out to any old show, you say?
Explain Celebrity Juice getting nominated, then.
It takes a special kind of awful to make me genuinely angry about a mere nomination.

It’s the audience award, and in the words of him off Peep Show: “People like Coldplay and voted for the Nazis. You can’t trust people.”

I’ve got a soft spot for Celebrity Juice, it’s crap, but it has a certain joire de vivre. And it pulls in big numbers for ITV2, about twice what The Bank Job brings in, in fact.

What a random scheduling decision by ITV!

Tuesday 8pm and we have a repeat of a civilian WWTBAM! A really old one as Chris keeps going on about ‘how new’ the clock format is!

I wouldn’t be too surprised if the monkeys received a truckload of complaints after what happened at the Nou Camp… 😉

Couldn’t help it in fairness – they only take one match per week, it’s always the Wednesday one in this contract (Tuesday nights in the next one starting in 2012-13, I understand), and the semi-final scheduling was determined with the quarter-final draw last month.

(Digression: and it was fortunate that it fell the way it did. Had Chelsea been scheduled to play their first leg last Tuesday, that would have set them on a formidable collision course with Liverpool, who could never have been forced to play their FA Cup semi-final on the Sunday due to it being the anniversary of Hillsborough, and the only solution I could have seen would have been Chelsea playing their FA Cup semi-final on Friday night…)

The Melbourne University Mathematics Society puzzle hunt is in progress, having started on Monday. Four new puzzles are released each day. I haven’t properly looked at them yet, but I know that at least one of them is likely to be of interest to denizens here, particularly the PuzzGridier ones.

    (Nice applet!)

Well, it’s clearly too easy if I managed to get even one group right.
I haven’t done that since one group on the show was Super Mario games.

I got the group with Templar in it – is that the same one?

Ok, solved it though I’m not sure how. (SPOILERS HEREIN) Crown, Hawk, Hood, Templar I though was initially film heroes (Hudson Hawk, Robin Hood, Simon Templar, Thomas Crown) although it kinda works for Knight or Night too (Nighthawk, Knighthood, Knight Templar…?)

The eggs one I Googled. Dirty, Express, Monkeys, Shanghai looks like it should be words from particular films (Dirty Harry, 12 Monkeys etc.) but I can’t see anyone common to all four. The other four clues are a complete mystery.

They put the geo-block message in English as well.

IT’S LIKE THEY KNOW WE’RE THERE.
