Endemol LIVE!

By | April 1, 2012

Just back from seeing Pulp in concert at the Royal Albert Hall, it was incredible. But there was a second rather more unexpected surprise in store – flyers for something called “Endemol – LIVE!”

I took one but I don’t have a scanner so I’m going to just type it up:

The Royal Albert Hall presents ENDEMOL LIVE!

Hit television makers Endemol celebrate years in the business with a one-off event – Endemol LIVE! In a broadcasting first, Endemol will be recreating its hit television shows LIVE! across four of the five major terrestrial channels all in one day all at the Royal Albert Hall on May 25th. And YOU can get a piece of the action!

The confirmed line-up includes:

  • For The Rest of Your Life – Nicky “White Lights” Campbell presents a special one-off edition of Endemol’s smash hit afternoon show which will go out LIVE! on ITV1
  • Deal or No Deal – LIVE! – Royal Television Society daytime winner Deal or No Deal returns for a special one-off edition LIVE from the Royal Albert Hall! For the first time, Noel will be asking select members of the audience to open the boxes whilst in the boxes!
  • Pointless – The hit BBC1 show will be going out LIVE! but in a special Endemol LIVE! twist, Alexander and Richard will have the backing of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. You won’t want to miss this!
  • Brainteaser – Craig Stevens returns for a very special CELEBRITY edition of hit Channel 5 show Brainteaser – LIVE FROM THR ROYAL ALBERT HALL! The celebs facing the brainy games include Brian Blessed, Gary Wilmot, Bonnie Langford and Christopher Biggins.

If that wasn’t enough, people lucky enough to be in the audience will be treated to the premiere performance of Deal or No Deal: The Musical. Danny’s (played by Brian Conley) chances of winning a lifechanging amount of money are rapidly deserting him, so he applies to be on Deal or No Deal. Will he find love on the wings, and will he take home an extraordinary amount of money? Noel Edmonds is played by Brian Blessed, Christopher Biggins plays The Banker and Gary Wilmot and Bonnie Langford are players on the wings. Songs include “Please Be A Blue, Box 22” and “The Power Five of Love”. Deal or No Deal The Musical looks set to be the next big West End hit!

How do you get tickets?

You cannot buy them. Instead, you are obliged to ring a premium rate number where some of you will be asked to leave your details. Free entry avaliable on the Endemol website.

“We’re really looking forward to this, the acoustics are meant to be tremendous.”

Well, there we are. Unexpected.

Fingers crossed we will have a recording report of Revolution with Carol Vorderman pilot for you later.

One of these days you’ll put up something like this and Endemol WILL eventually do it.

…I’m not the only person who would actually go to this, right?

I am now acutely aware of how good Brainteaser was for it’s £0 budget.

I heard from a close source with the “How do you get tickets?” bit. You ring up the premium phone line or go to the website to register. They will select pairs of people ordering the tickets at random and then get each pair to do The Prisoners Dilemma to see who gets the tickets.

Apparently, they’re doing this because it’s adds a “realism” to the game show genre for those who cannot appear on one.

For the three or four people follow me on twitter (@TravisAPenery) will know I tend to get some insider news before it hits the major websites. A close source has informed me the following this morning after The Voice received nearly 9 million for last night’s show. This is what I posted earlier.

With the proof that The Voice is the BEST THING EVER TO GRACE TELEVISION! BBC and Talpa are now working on two spin off formats of the show.

#1 The Big Voice UK sees operatic singers entering the show. It will be hosted by BRIAN BLESSED and coaches will include Russell Watson.
#2 Little Voice UK sees child singers under 12 entering the show. That show will be hosted by Dani Harmer and coaches will include Connie Fisher.

I also hear that John Barrowman is nearing contract agreements to become a coach on both shows as he is pissed off the London 2012 Olympics has forced his show Tonight’s the Night off the air. Therefore he is after a temporary job while he is unemployed this summer.

Your idea for ‘Little Voice UK’ has already been done in Holland. It’s called ‘The Voice Kids’. It did pretty well in the ratings, and has been commissioned for a second series.

I mentioned on twitter afterwards I wouldn’t put it past the BBC to commission a junior version for CBBC. Junior Masterchef did well for them some time ago.

Will Jane Horrocks also be coaching in Little Voice UK? Or perhaps given cohosting duties?

I didn’t mention her as it would’ve been too obvious. Someone on twitter did fell for it when I suggested Dani Harmer would be hosting.

I bet somebody has already seriously considered making Deal or No Deal – The Musical.

As an idea it would be quite simple and makes sense.

A few years ago I saw a student production of Crystal Maze: The Musical. It was, er, interesting.

I see Mr Weaver has been very busy this week composing a comprehensive April 1st Weavers Week.

I think a few of those have already been done. Chris Evans has dibs on Defenstrate!, Justin Lee Collins on Wanted, and Daddy’s Little Girl IS Date My Mom.

Posting this here so not to pollute the Revolution discussion.

Not a game show, but a YouTube show about games: Table Top. Wil Wheaton, who is sort of the US answer to Tom Scott, and chums play a board game from 2009 (Small World – a lightly-fantastic reworking of Vinci from ten years previously) and explain it to the viewers at home. It’s might be compared to Vague-Geek-Celebrity Late Night Not-Poker. It’s rather gung ho but very nicely produced and has its own sort of charm. Settlers of Catan next time. Hurrah!
