It’s Super Singing Smackdown Saturday!

By | March 24, 2012

It’s the Saturday night television battle that THE WHOLE WORLD is waiting for. IN THE BLUE CORNER, the reigning champion of the world, a variety talent show that let’s be honest might as well be a singing competition Britain’s Got Talent (ITV1, 8pm) and IN THE RED CORNER worldwide undefeated up and coming singing sensation The Voice UK (7pm, BBC1). WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN? Needless to say, I’m actually going out this evening.

Or maybe you’d like to try the special third option, Elton vs Simon: The Liveshow is on Pro Sieben 7:15 UK time (and hopefully live streaming) this evening. Elton vs Simon is the German adaptation of the Canadian show Kenny vs Spenny, except a bit more game-y, but likewise the loser faces a hilarious forfeit. And this time it’s LIVE!

Tonight also sees two of The Saturdays take on The Million Pound Drop, returning for a new run tonight from 9:20pm on C4.

And tomorrow we’re playing Pot Limit Omaha as part of Mix It Up Real Good. In theory it’s 8pm UK time, although as the clocks change this evening don’t be surprised if I have to cancel it tomorrow morning and then redo it so it starts at the correct time. Register now!!!

Edit: And the results! Massive numbers for The Voice, it’s really hit the ground running.

Nobody watched Elton vs Simon last night?

Managed to watch it this morning. Overall the show is the same to the normal editions of Elton vs Simon: The Show but done live with the style of Schlag den Raab. Turns out there were up to 16 games but unlike the increased scoring for each game. Some games were for 1, 2 or 3 points. The winner was the first to reach 16 points.

Some of the games that was used last night.

    – Who can swivel their chair around the most times with the use of a leaf blower.
    – Connect 4 basketball.
    – Getting from A to B but without touching the ground. Instead they had to use two cars each to get across.
    – Who can recognise the most items by licking them (one of them was a toilet brush!)

I mentioned last week TV listings gave them a 2 hour 45 minute time slot, finishing at 11pm CET. Guess what? The show overran by an hour and finished at midnight.

I don’t normally bother with singing shows but gave The Voice a try and rather enjoyed it. Lots of happy moments and Jessie J came across really well as a fun, kooky pop kid. Not sure that I’ll be sticking with the show after the blind auditions, but the blind auditions with their reversal of what I (mis)understand to be the usual judged music contest tropes were fun.
