SPOILER ALERT: Avoid the front page of the Sun’s TV Biz pull-out today if you don’t want to know what happened at Monday’s recording of The Cube Celebrity Special.

I thought “avoid the Sun” already goes without saying on a daily basis by now.

The irony i’d be none the wiser had I not read your post but of course there would only ever be one major spoiler in Cube terms. I just didn’t know who it was until I googled.

I sorta thought this info would have come out before it aired if it was a celeb special (if it was a civilian, not so much in advance)….I have a feeling this is the next new ep they air.

Someone was reading it during a lecture and my eyes accidentally looked in the wrong place.

Disasterous ratings for The Exit List last night, 1.8m including +1.

I wouldn’t go as far as suggest that that’s criminal, but I do think it deserves better.

I think that’s a shame – I’ve been really enjoying The Exit List – the game is good fun and the production values are excellent.

Then again, the last primetime ITV game show that I really liked was Duel, and look what happened to it. Clearly I’ve been jinxing things.

Too bad- thought last nights ep was pretty good (though I question how they figure their offers- thought the one last night was a little low considering all the factors involved, but it turned out OK in the end)

My guess – and it’s only a guess – is that people are getting a bit tired of all the hype and build-up. I think it could’ve been a much more fun idea to let people go apeshit in a maze full of money, doing it on-the-run at speed rather than all the “And the answer is…” pauses.

Somewhere, there is a sweet-spot for an intelligent quiz that’s fast paced and fun.

Quoting me from the Exit List show report:

“Something that gets more difficult to get out of the further you go in is one of the all time great mechanics and as such here we’ve actually got a fairly decent game. It’d make a brilliant end game if they had to do everything in three minutes.”

        I AM GREAT.

Unfortunately it’d be a very expensive set piece for a three minute bit of television, sadly. The George Lucas Studio can’t come cheap.

It deserves better but given they gave away £100,000 on the very first episode, most of the viewers don’t want to watch it any more since the six figure prize has been won.

The Chase hit 3 million three hours earlier. I wonder if ITV are better off airing normal episodes of the show in that timeslot. Surely they can get more than 2 million.

        Re:The Exit List
For the first time watching it on Tuesday night, I felt it dragged along in places.
Maybe that’s the problem. 10 questions, plus a relentless repeating memory game is not exactly primetime entertainment.

10 questions – it’s just not enough, no matter how silky and nice to look at the set and production values are. Compare that to an average episode of The Chase, where upwards of 100 questions are asked in 45 odd minutes of gameplay. Quite a difference.

Maybe also ITV should have jiggled around the order of tx’ing a bit, without blowing the £100k winner in week 1. Also, somewhere in the run they should throw on two pairs of contestants in one show who loose out on taking any money home. There was enough recordings to make the chances of that happening fairly high I would have thought.

Seems like it’s back to getting elbowed in the ribs by pissed off crooked plumbers on Watchdog for Matt, me thinks.

A real shame ITV didn’t take control over events in The Cube – though I suspect Pip Schof tweeted it all live anyway!

And The Exit List does deserve better – indeed probably one of the better new ITV gameshows in the last year.

He didn’t as he kept it a secret. Somebody from the audience went to the papers but he posted the news on his very own website hours after the newspaper report. Although I do question the word “several” early in his article as it’s definitely not that.

Avoiding the spoilers he did say this.
“We’re in the middle of recording two series of the Cube back to back”

So it looks like the 15 episode run will be split into two smaller series. Assuming one in the spring, the other in the autumn.

Having been at Monday’s Cube recording, I absolutely know that Schofe didn’t tweet it live. He asked the audience to keep it a secret if they could, but of course someone HAD to go and tell the tabloids.

Incidentally, I appear to be a good luck charm at recordings; related to the other discussion, I know for a fact that there’s another big Exit List win coming up…
