Notable things this week:
- Mix It Up Real Good Stage 1 – The first round of our free non-hold ’em contest is tonight at 8pm. Do join in, it won’t cost you anything. Tonight Omaha Hi/Lo is on the menu. You will need to be a member of the Bother’s Bar poker club to play. (8pm, Sunday, Pokerstars)
- The POLL of 2011 RESULTS! Will go up on Monday night. Hopefully. The Golden Five this year was particularly excitng.
- Fort Boyard: Ultimate Challenge – Series two goes out on Disney XD in the US from Monday, which is interesting as it was suggested CITV would get to show series two first. Series 1 on CITV can of course be found at 9am on Saturdays, repeated 5pm on Mondays.
- Playing it Straight – Well this didn’t do very well up against Celebrity Big Brother. Show discussion. (9pm, Monday, E4)
- The Exit List – Surprised everyone liked it as much as they did, I’ll be interested to see if you still all love it at the end of the series. Show discussion. (8pm, Tuesday, ITV1)
Er, I think that’s it really. Although it sounds like episode two of Wie Is De Mol? is almost ready for english language consumption.
Edit: I knew I missed something out, Gadget Geeks, starring Friend Of The Bar Tom Scott amongst others, begins on Sky 1 at 8pm.
Well here’s fun, because I’m on a completely different train to the one I was expecting I’ll be missing MIURG unless I can find a way to play online from my phone. Which may even be possible, I dunno.
Really, I don’t think litigation is out of the question.
Hilariously, because you’ve registered you’ll be picking up points anyway.
Well, I had a feeling I’d be the first casualty anyway, seeing as I know literally NOTHING of Omaha Hi/Lo, but I still had fun all the same. I’ll try my hand at the rest of the events in MIURG and see how I do from there.
I knew only what I looked up before the game – and came fourth. How, I have no idea.
Highlight was probably ending up splitting pots with Mark Labbett on what must have been at least three occasions. And David B getting mixed up real good, of course. 😀
Prior research should attract a 500 chip penalty. Since when was poker a “I’ll look it up on Wikipedia first” game?
It’s not like these variants are obscure though is it? Besides, I’ve linked to all the rules on the MIURG page anyway. And most of them work about the same.
I’d have totally have put Chinese Poker on the list if Pokerstars offered it, despite the fact it’s more resource management than poker really.
I think I should get a 500 chip bonus just for being amazing.
The link on MIURG is literally the only thing I knew about Omaha Hi/Lo. 🙂
I’m definitely going to enjoy these freerolls – I largely suspect that with my near-zero experience the main BSOP would be strongly EV- for me to play in, but MIURG costs nothing and is probably at least as enjoyable. Even when you’re not beating game show legends like Labbett and Bodycombe.
I’ll be playing these as often as I can, I enjoy Omaha but hi/lo was quite the beast to get to grips with. Still, can’t argue with 2 points.
I liked the bits where all the money went in, then all the cards turned over, then everyone went “WTF?” then the computer dished out the money to people. I FULLY understand why you don’t see it on television very often!
Omaha Hi/Lo will be making special celebrity guest appearances in limit form during HORSE and the 8 Game Mix – doubtless you’ll all have noticed that all the variants played during MIURG will turn up in one or both, except for 5 Card Draw and Badugi which have been included for added interest and to make up numbers. Pot Limit Omaha Hi is happening later in the season.
The poll results will go up tomorrow, they’re half done so expect them to go live sometime between 8 and 10. Like last year, percentages and whinging at the afterparty over here soon after the results get released.
Repost from last week:
Does anyone know a place where I can get a clean version of the Only Connect “think music”? I know the Connecting Walls do an extended version, but I’ve been craving the version used during the Connections/Sequences rounds.
Good game of Deal this afternoon.

From the creators of ‘The Voice’ this is the new talent competition, where it is all about the money. Competitors can back out from the competition by taking money instead of advancing to the next round, or they can even split the money with their opponent and ‘buy’ themselves into the next round. The studio audience votes who gets through.
Shades of This Is My Moment…?
Let’s face it, it was only a matter of time before we got a DoND/Idol hybrid format.
no poland in eurovsion this year. citing difficulties due to euro2012. suspicious.
Unrelated, but having seen a clip on Fuck Yeah Game Shows, I took the time to search out Le Tricheur, this new Canadian show.

The format’s unspectacular, but it’s worth watching just for the amazing set. Seriously, one of the best I’ve ever seen.
I’ll second that. The way it ‘transforms’ like that, it’s like something out of Transformers.
