Its a time for giving, a time for getting,
A time for forgiving and for forgetting.
Christmas is love, Christmas is peace,
A time for hating and fighting to cease…

Merry Cliffmas!
Of course, the song you quote from is OFFICIALLY ON-TOPIC because it was co-written by one of the Strachans.
If that is true than that is an AMAZING fact.
Written by Jeremy Paul, Leslie Stewart and Keith Strachan.
There, you just made me have to Wiki “Mistletoe and Wine”. Which I’ll have to explain if someone checks my Internet history. Please don’t make me do this again.
Merry Christmas to you too 🙂
I’ve let this one through because it’s Christmas! Merry christmas to you too, Endemol Joe!
Just noticed that this…

…is a bit of a copy and paste job of the first few paragraphs of this…

…a bit cheeky, don’t you think?!
Merry Christmas to you all! May 2012 bring more speculation, gossip, rumour and poor jokes! Have a good one peeps!
Here’s a little early Xmas present for those who are interested – new Run for Money:

They’re still doing the year 2900 story. At the moment there some “Hunter X” thing going on. I don’t completely understand it but there’s someone evil following the Game Master around and trying to ruin his games. Or something.
For the starting game they have to roll a dice to move the Hunter Boxes forwards the determined number of spaces. If they reach the Clear zone they’ll get a minute to run away before the Hunters are released, but if they roll a 1 the Hunters are released instantly.
Mission One: Players have to try and team up in pairs by meeting up and scanning their fingers to unlock colour vests. Even if just one of a pair survives until the end of the game they will both win the prize money.
Mission Two: There’re alarms on the vests. To stop them from going off, each team has to find their colour barcode and scan it with their phone to get a code to disable the alarm. There’s a puzzle involved in getting each code.
Mission Three: A Hunter Box has four chains connected to it. Three of the chains have cards on the end, the other will open the box. Players can pull a chain in the hope of getting a card. This card will allow one of the previously captured players to get back in the game. This is an advantage for the remaining players as they can let their teammate out so they’ll again have double the chance at winning the prize money.
Mission Four: Another cage appears, this time with five Hunters inside. Players have to form a new pair by unlocking a new set of vests, then go and lock the cage together before the Hunters are released.
Thanks Daniel! Those tasks sound quite clever. Will watch in due course.
Home for the Holidays just did a reference to Kick Start. How exactly is the target audience supposed to get that?
I think we might have a new contender for the worst show of the year… when a show doesn’t even bother about the accuracy of an answer for a question worth thousands of pounds…
Oh yeah, also whilst I’m here, merry Christmas from me, the (probably) youngest member of t’Bar.
Hope 2012 turns out as nice as 2011 did, is filled with more of the fantastic opinion-dressed-as-fact as usual and hopefully we don’t all die at the end of it.
Love (platonically) you all,
Alex xx
I get the feeling that will probably be the least viewed big money win on British TV ever. I’m sure those people on here who know about ratings will confirm that.
I’m pretty sure the six-figure win on call-and-lose show The Mint would hold the record for the least-viewed entry in the ATWL, but I doubt we’d actually have the ratings for it.
Merry Christmas one and all. Christmas treat for you all in the form of a riddle.
A bird soars on high.
A diamond in the sky.
A box from the East.
A children’s toy, at least.
Why thank you very much! Don’t know the answer though, unless it’s a version of the Nativity.
Definitely not a festive answer, apart from the toy reference obviously. Nothing too lateral either, it really is just four roundabout definitions of the same word.
It’s a kite – box and diamond are kite shapes, and some kites are in the shape of birds.
Nice one!
That’s right, I rather think Ive been outwitted by a master. Definitely my favourite riddle that one (of mine anyway) otherwise it would be the daffodil riddle from FB.
Merry Christmas! I got Dave Gorman Vs The World.
Turns out The Cube had 5.2 million (including +1) last night.
How did that happen? I thought The Cube is finished. People saying it’s been overstretched by having too many episodes in 2011. Numerous saying The Cube is no more. Yet, it got more viewers than Live Millionaire on Monday.
Yes, I am being sarcastic there.
I know it’s because it’s a Celebrity special and all, but…that’s really good considering the lead-ins weren’t particularly spectacular. Then again, that was the same for every channel.
And to put it another way, even against a surging Countryfile/Strictly combo, The Cube got twice as many viewers as High Stakes.
It probably has a very advertiser-friendly demographic skew, too, although we never seem to get those numbers so much in the UK. (Presumably advertisers in this country are more prepared to pay money to reach viewers over 50 than they are in the US, where the 18-49 demo is so all-consuming that shows that have low ratings in the demo and high ratings outside it still get cancelled, as happened to Million Dollar Password.)
Nice one. And whatsmore I can’t really see any reason for it doing so well given how previous celeb specials have rated, but a great episode as it turned out as well.
Seasonal Mutterings of Yuletide joy from me, to all in the Bar.
And here’s looking forward to awarding Don’t Scare The Hare, High Stakes and Home For The Holidays the top 3 in the worst of the year poll at the turn of 2012..
..but in which order will to be. That is the question.
(answer – in written order, basically)
I won’t say what the order will be as I am not a fortune teller but I suspect the following shows will get a shout for the Hall of Shame.
Don’t Scare The Hare
High Stakes
Home For The Holidays
Red or Black (although I think it shouldn’t be on both shame and fame lists)
Signed by Katie Price
The Marriage Ref
Quiz Trippers
Epic Win (although I think that was brilliant but not everybody liked it)
I didn’t really think there was as much hate directed at Epic Win as the others there. It felt like more was directed at the name itself.
Most of us on here liked Epic Win but quite a few on Digital Spy wasn’t keen on it,.
Expect details about this sometime in the next week.
Merry Christmas, all!
In definite non-news, On the “Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me!” special, Nick Hancock is introduced as the host of “the quiz show ‘Breakaway’ coming next year on the BBC” (loosely quoted). I know it’s not news at all, but I just thought I’d share. I didn’t get to see the TV version unfortunately, all I’ve got is the podcast.
Ooh, I read something about that here. Breakthrough, or Breakout, or something along those lines. Apparently the set’s 100ft long.
I suspect it’s probably the first quiz based around cycling strategy.
Or chocolate bars with yellow wrappers.
