Thanks to Greg Scott on Twitter for flagging this up, it’s not technically gameshow related but it is probably of interest – last night’s lotto prize breakdown:
Match 6 | 5 | £264,490 | £1,322,450 |
Match 5 plus Bonus | 41 | £9,924 | £406,884 |
Match 5 | 1,402 | £181 | £253,762 |
Match 4 | 46,269 | £12 | £555,228 |
Match 3 | 550,174 | £10 | £5,501,740 |
Totals | 597,891 | £8,040,064 |
It’s not up there with the hilarity of 5+bonus being worth more than the jackpot, but £12! The numbers were all really low: 1, 4, 7, 11, 13, 27 and the bonus was 12. About 16m tickets sold evidently, match three winners beating the odds rather significantly there.
Countdown is heading to Australia: http://www.tvtonight.com.au/2010/01/new-weeknight-quiz-for-sbs.html
V. interesting find. On the PSB channel as well, so I wonder if it’s going to be more like DCEDL in tone rather than Countdown.
Sure, I’m in Australia for the first time in my life in March… ah well. I do have tickets to see Hot Seat in Melbourne.
In other tv audience news… listen for screams of excitement in the dream factory today-Friday-Sunday. I won’t say anything more, except they’re mine. If you see someone in a dark blue polo shirt and with beige khaki that’d be me. Row three, tv viewer’s right, east wing on Thursday. Centre, row two, tv viewer’s left, Friday. Row four, tv viewer’s right, west wing, Sunday. Enjoy!
And I fear that TV5 here in Canada has skipped over my DCEDL episode. I certainly not however.
That should read “I certainly hope not, however”. Too early, apparently.
Row four, tv viewer’s right, west wing, Sunday.
Don’t get confused between Ryan and the other incredibly handsome young chap he’s sitting next to for this game, will you…
This is true, of course. I think I had calmed down slightly at that point… after my jog to the hotel and back to get my luggage! Leisurely stroll that was!
Well this actually sounds like it could be interesting…I was wondering when we’d hear more about this show (and this is from the same team behind Raven, so there is that pedigree)

There were just under 18 million tickets sold for last night’s lottery draw.
The number of tickets that won last night (compared with the expected probability)
3 numbers – 1 in 32.5 ( expected 1 in 57)
4 numbers – 1 in 386 ( expected 1 in 1033)
5 numbers – 1 in 12751 (expected 1 in 55492)
5 + bonus ball – 1 in 436038 (expected 1 in 2,330,636)
Hence the low prizes.
This, presumably, is an extreme example of what tends to happen when all six numbers are within ‘birthdates’ territory. In this case, all six (and the bonus) were in the range 1-28.
Wonder if anyone has a comparison for a week with several numbers in the range 32-49 drawn out.
Courtesty of http://lottery.merseyworld.com/
The highest combined total of the 6 main balls drawn was 245 when on Wednesday 18th April 2001 the numbers drawn were 30, 35, 41, 44, 46,49
Prize Number of tickets that won
5+bonus £110,718 1 in 2047849
5 match £3,110 1 in 92038
4 match £126 1 in 1706
3 match £10 1 in 89
That is very interesting, double the expected prizes, pretty much (although not so much 5+B.
