Who Want To Win A Paul Ross Jigsaw?

By | November 7, 2011

So! I did a competition on Twitter today to give away one of the TWO Paul Ross 300-piece jigsaw puzzles I’ve got coming.

The question simply was: “Who or what is the best Ross and why?” Caveats included disqualifying anyone who said “Sigur Ros” and opening up the competition to people in the UK only (sorry US and international peeps, postage costs mainly).

Nobody went for the golden envelope answer which was, of course, Ross Frozen Foods. This means I’m going to judge completely arbitrarily. Find out who gave the best answers and who the winner is under the cut!

Alright then – this list isn’t everybody:

  • Amusingly, given that this is the Festival of Paul Ross, nobdy picked Paul Ross. Or Jonathan. Or Amanda.
  • A couple of people went for Ross King. Not in my opinion the best Ross by any means, but of those people @eviljobob gets a special mention for going above and beyond the call of duty: “Best Ross = Ross King. #YoungKrypton http://bit.ly/tkMv4e #QuizNighthttp://bit.ly/rNM5NW (That’s my Dad in the middle)” Not a winner, but amazing nonetheless.
  • @DavidB1996: “I’ll have a go: Nick Ross, because of his ‘I’ve never worked with a minger’ quote.” Spurious.
  • @gwilymjames: “The best Ross is Ross County F.C. Top of their league right now, you can’t get much better than that.” A very good answer, but an entire county of Rosses? Can’t see it working.
  • @Tilsit: “Best Ross.  Danny – Jimmy Clitheroe’s mate.  or Annie – chanteuse extraordinaire.” Two answers – disqualified.
  • @jonathancairns: “My favourite Ross is a Rossword puzzle. Second only to a Ross jigsaw puzzle.” Nice try.
  • @mortice: “Rosslare – where Paul and Jonathan Ross have their underground hideout and hatch their world domination plans.”
  • @8cmd: “Kris Kross, because Rossini never made me jump! Jump!” Can’t work out your cryptic username, no deal.
  • @jadenotley1: “Bob Ross is THE best Ross! He paints happy little trees and has an amazing hair do!” This was a great and well thought response, but no the best response.
  • @michaelplacey: “diana ross. just look! http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_KqndcpjQSek/SmoquXzH0CI/AAAAAAAARrY/HR98iaypC-o/s400/Diana+Ross+-+Ross.jpeg” This almost won. But it didn’t because of the lack of capitalization.
  • @LFBarfe: “Doctor Ross the Harmonica Boss. Because he is the boss of the harmonica.” Indeed.
  • @sphilsmith might have been in with a shout with “ross 248, because size matters (no one will have entered a bigger ross!) and named as it shines 24 hours a day, 8 days a week!” Unfortunately he got too clever and tried to extrapolate with two extra tweets, forbidden in the original ‘one tweet only’ rule. Hard luck! (‘whats that? you dont know Ross 248? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ross_248′ ‘further justification if needed… voyager 2 will nearly hit it in the year 42,187. it needs some excitement before then.’)
  • Both @faulknmd and @marcoraymondo coming up with ‘Ross-on-Wye. Why? The Wye, that’s why.’ and ‘best Ross is Ross-on-Wye. Why? Cos it’s Ross-on-Wye, that’s why! And it was the birthplace of British tourism, I’ll have u know!’ Is this a reference to something? Anyway, too freaky to win.
  • @shoutsatcows offers us: “Susan Ross from Seinfeld is clearly the best Ross, for having the best comedy telly death ever.” I can’t help but think this is a subliminal message about killing Paul Ross and we can’t be doing with that. (They also offered “It’s not my actual answer (to follow…) but Ross Anderson at Cambridge Uni has a hell of a CV http://bit.ly/3FsIVa” which is true, in fairness.
  • The winner is, I think @manwithstick with a response that is both outside the box and quite funny: “The BEST Ross is actually John Pearman http://www.lookalikes.info/our-lookalikes/comedy/jonathan-ross-%28john-pearman%29″ I almost disqualified this for not spelling out why, but I think the picture tells the story. Proof if proof was needed that you can never go wrong with the Susan Scott Lookalike agency.

Well done Mark! Get in touch with your address and I’ll send your jigsaw out next week.

Didn’t win? Don’t cry! There will be a SECOND opportunity to win oin this here site at some point before Friday. Yay!
