For obvious reasons…

… the third series of Total Wipeout begins next week, just two weeks after they started repeating series two on Saturday nights. Good.

Meanwhile more Twitpics regarding the third US season which seems to be filming now. Now Wipeout USA fans, what’s missing from this picture?

A shame. They confirmed in an interview earlier this week they’ll be two twists to the Big Balls this year – in some episodes they’ll spin, while in others they’ll effectively bounce, going up and down on hydraulics.

I hope in their bid to make things more wacky, they still make them possible. I think the qualifier will lose some of its appeal if everyone falls off every single time as it leaves not much to be impressed at, whether people realise that now or not.

I was never really a fan of the Motivator, it must be said. I quite enjoyed the look of sheer terror on the contestants faces. I’m sure at least one contestant has quit when they got to the big balls and decided not to go on.

That’s fair enough, but I always thought that hitting people with a giant mallet is at least mildly amusing.

According to the Total Wipeout thread on Digital Spy, the show isn’t airing at all in Six Nations weeks, meaning episode 1 is Jan 30th, episode 2 on 20th February, episode 3 on the 6th March and then the remaining episodes from 27th March.

Ridiculous scheduling – would make much more sense to wait until the 27th March and air the whole thing.

I think it shows quite an interesting disrespect for the show, as if the programming heads suggest that all episodes of Total Wipeout are all the same and can just be flung out whenever. Which I think is very harsh, despite the fact that’s obviously not as good as the US show or whatever, there is effort there for the series to work as a cohesive unit (using older shows as reference points, for example).

Makes you wonder if their response to complaints about using the same obstacles week after week is to put the episodes on every 3 weeks instead!

Yeah, I know, but, People love it so they might be keeping them happy by doing it like this…

Oh, and Brig, I applied at UKGS and I haven’t had any response for 4 months
