What’s happening?

By | July 21, 2011

In lieu of anything interesting, I’m just going to put out there that Bother’s Bar Happy Hour competition Word Up! starts Sunday. You could win £50! But don’t get overly excited.

It is doubtful there will be a Fantasy X Factor this year as I’m not sure I can be bothered to watch it, which gives us a good excuse to run Secondhand 3-2-1 over the winter months.

So what exciting things are otherwise happening?

For my lunch today I asked for a chilli con carne, and then asked for an extra shake of tabasco…

    …that’s pretty exciting, no?

OK, I emailed Brig about this, but I think it’s time for my Question Too Esoteric for Only Connect. Entirely picture based, this, and there’s a load of correct answers for the fourth picture that I’ll accept, but in exchange for being lax on that, I would want an explanation of the connection.

    OK, Clue 1: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/198/choir.jpg/

They are in a particular sequence, so there is a fourth picture that can be predicted, but like I say, there are a number of right answers, so I’d be looking for knowledge of the connection.

I was thinking something like Last Choir Standing, The Chair,…, a picture of someone waiting for The Waiting Game, although I’ve not really thought very hard about it.

Good thinking, but no – based on that logic, Clue 3 will probably blow it open for you, but I’m going to let it simmer a bit.

Just remember, this is a sequence, the positions of the clues within it do make sense and are a part of it.

Also, there’s no real deep meaning behind the pictures other than what they represent at their simplest. So Picture 2 is just a generic chair, nothing special.

And, if i’m right, anyone on the bar who DIDN’T get this, HANG YOUR HEAD!

Not stuck in a lift but doing other things (hour at Riley’s, hour driving and most of the afternoon fixing Powerdirector so I can work on more clips for Buzzerblog).

I spent the weekend running around Nottingham Uni campus whilst dressed as a cat.

    We have a winner!

May I ask what you believe the connection is, just to make sure you didn’t luck into it? I’m keen to see how you describe it.

    Take a word – Choir
    Change a letter – Chair
    Do it again – Chain
    And you’ve got a chain…. Spinning chain!

    COME ON EVERYONE…

THAT’S HOW YOU PLAY-AY-AY CHAIN LETTAZ. CHAIN LETTAZ!

DOO DOO DO DO DOOO – DOO DOO DO DO DOOO

I got a Question Too Esoteric for Only Connect right!

          Absolutely perfect.

          On my card it says:

          Clue 1: http://img198.imageshack.us/img198/5324/choir.jpg (Choir)
          Clue 2: http://img88.imageshack.us/img88/5014/chairzt.jpg
          (Chair)
          Clue 3:http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/3250/galvanizedshortlinkchai.jpg
          (Chain)

Clue 4: Either a picture of a spinning chain, a flashing chain, or a photo of any Chain Letters host other than Jeremy Beadle.

Reason being, my precise answer was “The animation elements of the Chain Letters titles in order”. In the non-Beadle versions, the host’s name was also animated, but my preferred answer was indeed the cover art of Spinning Chain. The images were the first result on Google Image search for the words in question by the way.

My complete explanation for the answers in moderation, so if Brig can clear it, that’d be nice.

I can only assume that Travis, David B, Jennifer et al are all trapped in the same lift together, else I would have been beaten to it for sure

I could clearly see it was a word ladder but I wouldn’t have got the Chain Letters reference at the time, so full credit to the solver.

I was kind of hoping people would see the word ladder thing, in 1 and 2, and then it would click when they saw the chain as item 3.

My colleague here has come up with an absolute beauty, I just need to check the details (it’s a bit complex), and I may run that one as well – to me it’s a bit hard, but someone may get it

It doesn’t help that imageshack mucked up the names – I’d uploaded them as choir.jpg, chair.jpg, chain.jpg, but the names must have changed back.

Anyway, this one requires no pictures at all, and may well be easier to some people more familiar with the oevre than others. Definitely, the connection will be more obvious than clue 4.

            Clue 1: The Golden Shot
            Clue 2: Chain Letters

Two at once, because The Golden Shot is too lousy a clue on its own, and again this is a sequence, albeit one in layers of complexity.

Wasn’t this anounced weeks back? At least the article i saw said it was Brian Dowling with Emma back on BBLB.

Not OFFICIALLY as it turns out. Emma Willis is pregnant as well which may make BBLB more difficult.

Well, Davina was heavily pregnant when announcing Brian as the winner of BB2… 😉

No Fantasy X Factor? Boooooo,. i think this years will be a much more open contest to.

At least that means I will officially be the reigning champion for ever and ever….

I haven’t yet made a decision on it (although I’m tending towards “no”). Let’s see how the auditions fare and then we’ll see.
