Things Post

With McFly on The Cube this evening, this seems like a good place to have a Misc. post.

If you were at Red or Black at Wembley, I’d appreciate it if you posted your experiences on the Red or Black post.

So You Think You Can Dance final tonight. I suspect Kirsty might win, despite being the weakest dancer of the four. The public seem to adore her for some reason. Not that she’s bad, she deserved her place on the show but to have made the final ahead of the likes of Katrina and Charlotte is a bit… odd.

Don’t forget there is Who Dares Wins on tonight. I know it will clash with The Cube but you can watch it on ITV+1. For those who don’t know, the current champions will play against their 8th pair of opponents at the top of the show. If they beat them then they will equal the record for the most wins. They have already secured £155,000, the second highest win on the show so far.

For how many shows was Shane Warne a team captain on AQoS? We have him listed on UKGS but he wasn’t an answer on tonight’s show.

According to IMDb, it was three – so not really a regular captain, I think.

Nick, did say in the points of clarification before the round started, that guest team captains were not allowed.

I guess 3 episodes (which one have been just one recording session) counts, so Warnie isn’t counted as a team captain.

The Big Brother squabbling has begun, with the Daily ratS declaring that people have been literally queueing up for the Big Brother auditions, and the Sun declaring that people have literally not been queueing up, or indeed turning up, for same.

A whole summer of this to come, folks.

The music on The Cube has been different tonight, particularly for one of the games near the end. Makes it more watchabale than usual.

I was just going to comment that there were a few new musical cues tonight, and they certainly helped the atmosphere. Good cubing tonight.

Finally Joe, we see eye to eye on something!

Tonight’s music was bordering on cinematic, absolutely beautiful. Just a fantastic episode from start to finish.

Tell you what though, they’re fools if they don’t retire Barrier after this series!

Brill episode. The fact that he basically got revenge on Side-Track for Martin in Series 2 was worth it alone.

So true, so true. The music tonight was simply epic, particularly in the 100,000 pound game.

Mmm, yes. I hope they have something as “Tchaikovsky-esque” in case of an ultimate winner as WWTBAM? does.

I’ve been rather lax in my Cube viewing, so hadn’t seen the Cascade game before, but I loved it. My favourite games – apart from the mental ones, conspicuous by their absence in last night’s show – are definitely the ones with lots and lots of little red balls, like that and the “get 500 little red balls out of the box” one.

They’ve got better at working out what games look best in slo-mo.

I, is watching the 24 Hours of Le Mans on Speed (most likely Eurosport down there)

Those Audi cars look extremely fragile, given how 2 out of 3 of their cars have both been been subjected to the 73rd Way to Leave a Road Race: Get clipped by a Ferrari and crash into a wall, subsequently resulting in pieces flying everywhere.

If anybody has got Sky then The African Channel on 268 are now showing Deal or No Deal Nigeria with John Fashanu. It’s on tomorrow afternoon at 2pm.

The Cube recorded nearly 3.2 million last night. I think that is a personal low and proof shows it can only rely on The X Factor to prop it up. In a nutshell, it lost to the entire BBC primetime line up. Personally I would’ve placed it before the last BGT Semi Final on that Sunday evening or had it as the sandwich for the final instead of Popstar to Operastar.

That said, more proof shows Who Dares Wins can fare well when it’s not against the Cowell machine.

So You Think You Can Dance: The Final Live: 3.45m (18.1%)
The National Lottery: Who Dares Wins: 4.61m (21.6%)
So You Think You Can Dance: The Final Results: 3.39m (16.9%)
    The Cube Celebrity Special: McFly: 3.09m (14.0%) , +1: 180k (0.9%)

Then again, according to Digital Spy. The Cube was the second most watched show in the 16-34 age category with 689k. Probably mostly McFly fans.

Hmmm, great edition of The Cube, but it seemed a bit late in the evening. Absolutely agree it should have been the filling in the BGT final sandwich last Sat.

14% really is too low. I suppose they could say they were up against a strong night on the BBC – £155k returning champs and dancing finals – but I don’t know what’s going wrong with the Cube. Good presenter, good production values, good slot… it feels like a hit in all but viewing figures.

I wonder if it’s just not cuddly enough for ITV? While I personally love the style of it, would a more old-fashioned approach do better? But then again, you could argue Odd One In did that and didn’t particularly fare any better, even though that’s returning again.

Hard to predict, audiences, these days.

Ouch that is poor. It puts the ratings for Sing if you can into perspective, if it wasn’t capturing the audience leading into BGT it would be sub 3m IMO.
