Watching Telly: Red or Black

By | June 10, 2011

OK then, the first stage of Red or Black is at Wembley Arena tomorrow and Sunday and four different shows will be filmed, two a day.

I’m hoping to get in the audience for one of them, but if you’re in the audience or even (particularly!) if you’re a contestant then we’re always very interested in your experiences and what you thought of the show. We’re interested in what things happen, although please don’t spoil actual results if you can help it. Feel free to use a pseudonym if necessary.

Edit: I’m bailing out, I think I will be wasting a train ticket. Therefore we’re now VERY interested in your experiences!

Will you be taking photos of the set and events taking place tomorrow? I would be very interested in seeing the scale of this TV show. They are hyping it up as a massive gameshow, so it must now live up to the hype OR it could become an almighty big turkey.

My sister is working on it, but I don’t know how much I can say. There’s three shows filming today, two tomorrow. I know how each show is going to work (and which ‘stunts’ are in which) but apparently the contestant’s “don’t have a clue”, so I best not say to be safe. The first part of each is just You Bet, as expected.

From what I can understand, audience will only be let in to fill gaps left by losing contestants who don’t want to stay around. Let’s hope I’m wrong, or else it’ll mean standing outside for hours and likely never getting in. Apparently Ant and Dec filmed outside shots yesterday.

Cheers Dan. It is tempting not to bother, especially as I have other offers for the evening, I have to say.

I think you’re right, especially if they stay on for the afternoon showings (which was the one I’ve got a ticket for).

A stunt went really badly wrong in yesterday’s dress rehearsal run-through. Three ambulances and two police cars had to go to Wembley Arena after what happened!

Jedward are there today by the way.

If one of Jedward got injured, does that mean the other one has got to get injured too?

Funningly, either John or Edward injured themselves at last years T4 on the Beach (cannot remember who without looking). I wonder if it’s the same person.

A bit more info, I guess I’m safe to say this now that three shows have been recorded, and we’ve got that video. Nothing amazing, but I didn’t want to say yesterday in case anyone got in trouble.

Each session is for a different region of the country. They watch a stunt inside the area and have to choose either red of black, depending on which of the two participants they think will win. Choose the wrong colour and you’re out.
All the winners are then taken outside for the second part. They have to open fortune cookies to see if they’ve won a pass to the next round. Which seems a bit naff to me.

Winners then get on a coach and are driven round the corner, to make out that they’re being taken back to their region to play the next round.

Turns out there’s actually four shows/regions being filmed today. So each of these seven will go out daily over a week? Only having one game in each episode doesn’t seem right though.

Is it just one game per session? Blimey. Each episode is 90 minutes, this will only take up a few minutes of broadcast I would have thought.

I had always assumed with seven episodes each one would be based on a region. The fortune cookie thing is rubbish, makes a mockery of the whole Red or Black idea. I expect to find the final eight the surviving contestants will have to find one of eight red balls in a bag full of black balls, or something.

ITV’s started searching for and blocking YouTube videos, it seems. :\

Well four of us went today 12th June as audience for the show. We expected to see a whole show but were very disappointed with what we saw. Firstly we had to pay £30 to park as an audience member and food and drink were expensive and unlike other perfomances no freeby for the audience members.

We started by having to PRETEND we were the chosen few to play when in fact just the group in front of us were the ones chosen. It suggests by the filming that it is possible that the whole audience may be chosen at random BUT this is not true as the selected contestants already know who they are.

We then saw one stunt and game (lasted about 30 seconds), then we were told we had half hour break whilst they set up for the next one, this took about 2 hours of waiting and then they got the audience going and promised us haribo for playing games… no sweets were ever given out despite this promise and we heard the same happened yesterday… a con again.

Then after a few reruns of filming some cheerleaders the next game took place lasting about 5 mins. I must add this game was for a second night and a new set of contestants no idea what happened to the winning players from the first game.

Then that was that, 6.5 hours of sitting in an arena £30 of parking, £20 spent on food and drink and we saw 5.5 mins of the actual programme games and spent a bit more doing pretend cheering etc.

So would I recommend going as audience member NO I WOULD NOT>

Would love to know what next audience saw and look forward to seeing what finished product comes out like… we will be there for one game two different nights lol

Oh now having read Daniels write up I can see that we are in fact yes the audience for two shows, that is why they kept saying we are using the audience throughout the whole show. SO I guess it will be cut to appear as if we were there for the whole game. So really this is a show were nothing is as it seems I guess. WIll really want to see it now.

I was going to be a contestant on the 11th for this but ended up deciding against it (Wembley is a long way for me and I’ve a holiday booked for when the live finals are likely to be, didn’t seem worth it). Looking at the various leaks it looks like it would have been a lot of fun but also a lot of sitting about. I do look forward to seeing the final programme though (although I may have to record it!). I was under the impression that we’d be there pretty much all day, I didn’t realise it was just one game per group of contestants.

Wow Nic that sounds even worse than for us as audience members, no idea you had to come so far and pay for everything crazy. I can imagine your anger.
I guess they really ahve not planned it well, too much hanging around and waste of everyones time. I wonder if people will do it again if it re runs next year?
