What I have learnt from Only Connect this evening:

That Agricola isn’t pronounced agri-cola as I had envisioned.

I also like to irritate friends by pronouncing Carcassonne as Car-cass-o-nee, before hilariously connecting bits of field up and outfarming everybody. Ha ha ha ha ha! HA.

Big news over here in the US- Simon Cowell is leaving American Idol after this season so he can be a judge/exec producer a US version of X Factor (though it’ll be for the same network)..

    Carcassoni-91.

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long not to notice this.

In my Carcassonne Games I have a rather large advantage of seemingly being the only person who seems to ‘grok’ the way farms are scored in it. (Which isn’t nearly as fun as using a Cathedral in the Inns and Cathedrals expansion to stop an opponent scoring a huge ass city which was utterly non completable given the amount of tiles remaining)

Which is a shame, really, but nothing compared to my advantage in Gheos of being the only one who really ‘groks’ manipulating follower payments, warfare and migration (172 points to 85 and 79 last game I had of that), mind.

Haven’t really gotten round to trying Agricola, mind. Sitting on a shelf, but the rules and components manage to intimidate me in a way that the sheer quantity and density of GURPS books currently in existence don’t. I’m sure it’s simpler than a casual glance makes it appear, mind.

When I play it’s all about big cities, me and my group keep things expansion-free most of the time so it often dissolves into a city battle.

Well I’m reliably informed it’s Car-cass-on, as referenced by Damon Albarn off of Blur in On Your Own and friends like to keep on reminding me that it’s French, not Italian.

Which makes pronouncing it wrong even funnier, obviously. It’s the repetition.

I seem to recall Jamie Theakston pronouncing it Car-cass-on when The Search went there, yeah.
