Show Discussion: Schlag den Raab

By | September 18, 2010

7:15pm UK / 8:15pm Germany, ProSieben or hopefully naughty internet streaming

Well, it’s back from its sommerpause (that means summer break) and tonight Stefan Raab defends his €1m from another challenger, probably by winning a game involving predicting precisely how many crisps it takes to weigh exactly 245 grams on some sort of weighing scale, making sure to use at least three different types.

It’s also Celebrity Total Wipeout tonight at 6:30. Jeff Brazier is a contestant. And Merlin is on after that, so by the time that finishes SDR should have finished selecting a player. That is your evening taken care of, do remember to eat.

Brilliantly, it looks like there’s an official stream! Actually on reflection it probably isn’t. Still though.

Musical interludes this evening are Kylie Minogue (one of Stefan’s favourites) and Phil Collins. Meaning there is a chance when Phil Collins performs he will be on ITV and Pro7 at the same time. Talk about global domination!

Given what I’ve seen from Aussie Beat the Star this week, we could see the following tonight.

    – Stefan and the challenger running into a rubber brick wall with Matthias Opdenhövel checking their speed of collision with a speed gun.
    – Stefan and the challenger whipping up egg whites and see who can have their whisked mixture stay in the bowl the longest, when tipped upside down.
    – Stefan and the challenger wearing velcro suits and have tennis balls thown out of a cannon, the person with the least balls on their body wins.

I’m sure the games they used this week is a leaf taken from Elton Vs Simon’s book. No wonder it got dropped after two episodes. I think Seven went a step too far and made it more of a gimmicky show.

Spud Run please. Best game from the UK one IMO.

Yeah, that was 2009, but still.

I’m pretty sure the egg white challenge has been used on SDR before.

I thought Beat the Aussie was quite good. I also think you’ve misinterpreted the velcro ball game, the object was to get as many on you as possible.

Game 1 is Counting Money. Both players have a bowl with the same amount of money in it. The first player to ring in with the right amount wins. That’s Thorsten!

Game 2: Animals. Name the animal from the picture. If you buzz in and you’re right, you get a point. If you’re wrong or take more than 5 seconds, your opponent gets a point. First to 7 wins.

We’re back! After Phil Collins covers the song “Heatwave”, it’s Game 3: Tree Walking. They have to get across the stage using two little logs as stepping stones. Stefan does this first, extending his lead to 5-1.

Game 4 is Memory. AKA Pelmanism, Pairs, or Concentration. 40 cards are laid out on the table. Apparently, whoever makes more matches will win.

How odd that a German television station uses an image line in English..

I can’t imaging promo trails with Paul O’Grady saying..

EDIT – Looking at it again It’s not a beachball, but one of those more rigid lightweight plastic ones.

Thorsten has this in the bag..

Whoever can keep the beach ball up off the ground longer over 5 attempts wins.

Stefan was doomed from the go, it seems. His first turn lasted just 1 second. And though his last round was clearly his best, it wasn’t enough to overcome Thorsten’s commanding lead. 10-5 Thorsten going into Game 6: Blamieren oder Kassieren.

For the newcomers, it’s a simple quiz. Stefan’s co-star, the single-named Elton, asks both players a question. First to buzz in gets 5 seconds to answer. A right answer earns a point. A wrong answer gives a point to your opponent AND gives your opponent a chance to steal an additional point with a right answer. If he’s wrong, you get a point back. First to 7 points wins.

After the break, we’ll play Game 7: Driving Backwards. It appears to be a race in which Thorsten and Stefan will drive cars in reverse.

    Game 7
First time to get some lungfulls of the Cologne night air..
    And it’s car slalom driving.

(and for all you techincal fans, includes a new camera angle which isn’t a hothead or crane, but appears to be either a badly tethered blimp or it’s on a t-wire, and is producing some very bumpy and wobbly high up shots)

Marc, I’ve been awake since 4.55 this morning, and now seriously flagging, so there’s going to be a point in the next few mins when (and as much as I love watching shows in a language I can’t speak) I’m going to have to quit out of this soon. Eyelids drooping lower and lower as the games go on!

Hope I’ve helped and not treaded on your electronic toes too much this evening. Enjoy the rest of the show..

    Mr Bother called it.

“Probably by winning a game involving predicting precisely how many crisps it takes to weigh exactly 245 grams on some sort of weighing scale.”

Game 9 features five ingredients, each with an specified weight. Stefan and Thorsten have to place each ingredient into separate bowls and predict how much it actually weights.

In other news, I bought the Cube interactive board game today. Rather good! 50 games, some involving an LCD screen, most involving a combination of red balls and pieces of tubing and cardboard.

Don’t worry, found it. Calling it an ‘electronic game’ is a bit misleading – really it’s a highly interactive physical board game that has some electronic bits.

One slight disappointment is that the electronics aren’t as clever as you might like – so, for instance, it can’t detect whether you’ve landed a ball into the Cube, nor are there any niceties like tilt sensors.

The ‘bits’ are very nice, and there’s plenty of them. It’s a mini Crystal Maze-prototyping kit in its own right. A clever nicety is that you can program the Cube to time 5 to 30 seconds in 5 second increments, so no need for an egg timer.

How they’ve managed to assemble all this in such a short period of time is quite impressive. It’s a fully fledged board game for something that’s only just starting series 2.

Also, “2-6 players” on the box is a bit of an error, given that the Cube is a 1 player game on screen. There’s no reason why you couldn’t play it on your own, just to see how high up the money tree you could get.

Yeah–he only needs to win one of the last 2 games to win it all.

I zonked out for a couple of the games near the middle; how do I see what I missed?

It all comes down to this: A basketball shootout for all the money. They start from 20 meters out, and if both players miss, they move up a meter until one player makes a basket and the other doesn’t.

And Thorsten makes it from 11m out and wins the million! (Apparently Stefan doesn’t get a final turn.) See you guys next month!

Doesn’t need one, he threw first at eleven.

Anyway, that was suitably epic. Well done Thorsten! next one in October.

Stefan did try at 11m but missed. He went first, so Thorsten beat him fairly.

The €1 Million winning expression on his face summed up the whole night, nackered!

Stephan had his shot at 11 meters Marc- he went first in every round, presumably so if Thorsten won, it would be the winning shot.
