Sorry for all the Fast CGI errors, hopefully it will resolve itself soon.
Right, I’ve got a jolly exciting idea coming this week, in the meantime here’s what immediately springs to mind Board of Excitement wise – if you think there should be something else on here, put it in the comments:
- Only Connect (8:30pm, Monday BBC4): It’s the new one, and apparently there’s a surprise in store. What could it be? Lets hope it isn’t massively disappointing. Epicurans vs Courtiers – it’s good to see they’ve raised the highbrow bar in the teamnames right there. The BBC blurb suggests that one team is three university chums with a love of food, and the other a trio of Ulstermen but I couldn’t tell you just by looking which one was which.
- Ultimate Big Brother (From 7:30pm, Friday, Channel 4): The final to end all finals, until it probably moves to Channel 5 next year.
- Ipod Therefore I Am: Basically I’m buying an iPad this week and will start reviewing apps that the Bother’s Bar puntership may or may not find intriguing. I hope you will find this exciting and fun.
Good times, as Justin Lee Collins would suggest.
I recommend buying Hector: Badge of Carnage & Labyrinth 2. Especially Hector.
Uni Chal this week: UCL v Hertford Oxford.
As last week, there’s quite a bit to say about one of the institutions taking part, and a lot less to say about the other.
(And let me just stress again that it’s all just useless information – and is in no way intended as a form guide or anything like that.)
UCL is making its second consecutive appearance, and eighth in all in the Paxman Era. Last year’s team attracted some attention through captain Olivia Woolley, for reasons that probably don’t require going into – but one can’t help but apply the “what might have been” tag, as they narrowly lost a high-scoring affair against Loughborough, then led 155-100 against Alex Guttenplan’s Team…
Hertford, meanwhile, is making its first appearance PE.
Monday at 8 on BBC2 as always.
Im going to see Countdown being recorded on Monday.
Someone needs to do an app that looks and works like a Fort Boyard clepsydre. That would be wicked.
The Bar appears to be FastCGI Erroring a lot this morning, I hope this is merely a brief blip.
As a tech fan just can’t understand the hype surrounding ipad’s the device is seriously flawed, overpriced and does far less than a £250 cheaper netbook or even a £100 similar spec android tablet from dealxtreme (see below)

HINT: the Ulstermen are… men.
QuizQuizQuiz is a good app with loads of great questions, although the presentation is a bit stark.
Yep, downloaded it in prep, expect a review of QuizQuizQuiz, Crystal Maze, The Cube and Millionaire in the next week or so.
The Screws on Vern Onkaye: “Vernon’s just returned from a six-week spell in America filming game show Million Dollar Mind Game due to air on ABC in the new year.”
Hurrah!
Though they only found out by checking Tess Daly’s voicemail.
Allegedly.
Epicuran: follower of Epicurus, a Greek philosopher who disbelieved superstition and gods, and believed in seeking small pleasures where they can be found. The idea has become associated with mild hedonism. That sounds like our food-lovers, so by process of elimination the Courtiers would be our gentlemen from Ulster.
As for the mild surprise, is it that BBC2 are actually going to do their timings properly and finish University Challenge so that the end credits don’t clash with the opening credits of The Only Connect, and those of us who record both shows can do so without missing bits? Especially now that the ten million narrative repeats of The OC have been reduced to approximately none. (Actually, is *that* the surprise – if you miss it on Monday, you miss out?)
