Letters and Numbers

Thanks to Timmy who has pointed out that the Aussie version of Countdown, Letters and Numbers, begins August 2nd on SBS.

The set is basically a copy of our domestic one, but I can’t decide if the clock is stylish or a bit naff.

In other news, full on rebellion on Big Brother Africa All Stars. I’d love to see what sort of reaction something like that would get over here. I’d be disrupting the live shows like nobody’s business.

I wish we’d have something like that over here in the US- I’ve seen a lot of complaints that this year’s cast is very, very, dull..(I don’t think they’re going to start playing until they know they’ve guaranteed a jury spot)…

Uni Chal tonight: will Peterhouse Cambridge and Exeter keep up the high standards of this series so far?

Cambridge’s oldest college is making its first appearance in a decade, and third overall in the Paxman Era.

Exeter, on the other hand, are making their fourth appearance in six series, and sixth overall PE. They reached the quarter-finals in both of their last two appearances – but probably need no reminders about the second of these QFs. (And every single thing that took place in that particular match, plus the nonsensical scoreline, is STILL OFFICIAL, got that, Sir Michael, Mark, and everyone at Complaints?)

The whole thing reminds me of the way the Spanish housemates managed to agree to nominate each other so that everyone would be up for eviction each time. It’s interesting to note the different relationships between the housemates and the production team at large in different countries,. The closest we’ve had to a full rebellion in the UK was John McCrirrick, and you remember how that turned out. (I wonder if there’s something to be learned about the concept of “national character” from the housemates in each country?)

I’m led to believe that last year’s contestants repeatedly refused to nominate others, and invaded the camera run on the pretext that they could. Of course, all of this is hearsay, because absolutely no-one watched last year’s show, which is why we’re where we are now. Wherever that is.

Unrelatedly, a researcher has a short survey about, effectively, people’s utility functions in 50:50 gambles. It is as short as it claims and I enjoyed taking it. Some of the usual suspects here probably would do as well. Go ahead and take it without further deal-ay.

Looks like Krypton Factor is finished. Ben Shephard has signed an exclusive contract with Sky Sports to front their football coverage.

Is that implied or confirmed? KF would be just as good with a different host.
