Come on, Tim!

By | January 6, 2010

In this nightmare Amanda Holden Crystal Maze scenario, we’re a bit surprised that one name never comes up in discussions about hosts who would be great for the show. And yet if it was on prime-time ITV, he’d be absolutely perfect:

Tim-Vine

Think about it.

  • Wouldn’t take the show too seriously – a bit like Richard O’ Brien.
  • Would be able to make funny asides to camera when the action is a bit slow – a bit like Richard O’ Brien.
  • Can play a musical instrument – a bit like Richard O’ Brien.
  • Not Going Out suggests he can play with a bit of edge when needed – a bit like Richard O’ Brien.
  • Is much funnier than Russell Brand – a bit like Richard O’ Brien. He’d be fun for all the family.
  • He’s young enough to run around a bit – a bit like Ed Tudor Pole.

See? It’s a perfect fit.

When we were discussing Fantasy Fort Boyard hosts last year, Sphil came up with Tim Vine which I thought wouldn’t work because he’d lack the charming bastardness the Master of the Fort role really requires – it wouldn’t be believeable with his background. But as Time Travelling Tour Guide? This is a much better fit I’d say.

I hope I’m not the only one to notice the tag, ‘the legendary tim vine’.

And yes, he really would be a great fit. I still think he’d be perfect on Boyard though Brig!

And seeing as brig mentioned it (but its not strictly on topic), I loved Not Going Out, but i find it very annoying that Miranda Hart effectively ruined it, and then got a sitcom of her own as a reward.

    (non-game-show related rant over)

Not a fan myself. I think Alexander Armstrong could be a good choice – a competent presenter and competent actor, so presenting something in character should be perfect.

Yes, I agree with Tim for Crystal Maze presenter. But it’s alright, I’d get on as a contestant and then he wouldn’t be there for my taping.

    Oh, wait…

If they can afford him, then Bill Bailey would be a brilliant choice.

Bizarrely, the most left field host idea who might actually work (In a ‘…I have no clue how, mind,’ sort of way) I’ve heard yet would probably be… Julian Clarey.
