That Figures!

By | January 6, 2010

Just saw these overnights on Digital Spy which look like intriguing reading:

7pm: Celebrity Mastermind BBC1 6.42m (25.1%)

7:30pm: The Krypton Factor ITV1 3.21m (12.2%)
7:30pm: Eastenders BBC1 11.04m (41.9%)

10pm: Celebrity Big Brother C4 2.97m (14.0%)

Disappointingly low figure for The Krypton Factor, I thought.

Classic gameshow with ratings in the form of a classic gameshow.

Still, shame about the quanitty, but a cute little link there.

The Krypton Factor is an atrocious television programme. It’s an unmitigated disaster and the ratings clearly show that. A 12% share is horrendous, even considering it was up against EastEnders. Add into the equation that it was the first episode of the series (higher ratings usually) and loads of viewers watching TV last night, I would actually say The Krypton Factor is ITV’s biggest gameshow flop in years, even worse than Colour of Money.

The first series’ ratings weren’t too much better either. It started well, but declined throughout, settling to just above 3m.

Good television programmes tend to get good ratings. Look at The Lakes on Monday which was also up against EastEnders and got 4.8m. Now, that’s what you call a good rating.

Krypton Factor would flop anywhere in the schedule. I hate it. I hate the format, the presenter, the fact that they got rid of the best rounds, the fact that it’s dumbed down for ITV’s stupid audiences.

The show is an embarrasment to the gameshow industry. It should be sent to the dustbin ASAP.

But the sponsor pays for the show in entirety, so from ITV’s point of view it makes financial sense. This is one of the reasons it gets made in this manner.

Your comments are awfully harsh Jonathan.

Not all television programmes that are generally considered ‘good’ get good ratings.

And if, in your view, New KF is a bigger flop than The Colour of Money, then how come it’s already had one complete series, which was longer than seven episodes?

In less hysterical context – It’s half a million higher than Grimefighters has been getting in that slot recently, and at about what the previous series settled at.

Record rating for Only Connect on Monday – 357,000 average (our best before was about 280k I think)

Considering that few people seemed to know it was on, and that University Challenge over-ran, that’s not bad really is it? Well done!

I watched KF- liked the new obstacle course (seems a lot fairer), and it didn’t feel any slower-paced even though they lost one of the rounds.

For comparison, the premiere last year was at 4.3 million- but that was on New Year’s Day, so there’s a bit of a larger audience (but EE was only at 9.3 million, how the heck did they gain almost 2 million viewers?)…

In news over here in the US, “Perfect 10” (the ripoff show of The Cube) has had it’s title changed (per a tweet from the host), it’s now called “Minute to Win It”- so now they’re ripping off catchphrases from UK versions of US shows…

K-Fac’s ratings don’t sound too bad, I’ll be more interested in how it goes from here though. If it can maintain a 2.5-3m average then I’d put money on a 3rd series, finally snapping the string of revivals that only manage 2 series’.

I’m guessing you don’t count revivals that are celebrity oriented.

I’m not complaining at all! I was just making an observation.

I wouldn’t count them either, so I don’t blame NJ one bit.
